Are there two levels of teams for boys? My son played on an Arlington Super Y team last year, and it was a good experience. However, at the tryout session this year, there seemed to be a ton of Academy players (no Academy players were on his team last year). Unless there are two levels of team, I'm now doubting he has a chance to get a spot this year. |
Your worried about not making a super y team? |
He wasn't worried before yesterday, since he made a team last time. |
Girls have had two teams per age group the past few years I believe. Top team plays up a year and the other team plays in own age group. Sounds like they might be doing that with some of the boys age groups this year too. |
Wait, there are super y tryouts happening in January?? Lol |
Eh, I don't mind knowing early what the option is, since DS also plays another summer sport, and can't do both. |
If your kid plays travel for another club, do they need to release your player's card to do Super Y? |
I don't think so. My son played for an Arlington super Y team last year, he plays for another club. It was a non-issue. If they asked for the card to be released for the summer, it was such a non-event that I didn't recall it. |
Nope! You may want to look at McLean as well. They are doing an "official" Super Y tryout this year as opposed to other years when it really was just their top team who played. |
Super-Y tryouts in January. The next evolution of recruiting in youth travel soccer. |
Yes arlington is big about 1st, 2nd team and cutting the not good enough to make super y. The 1st and 2nd super y teams played the same schedule but are clearly defined. |
Call around to other club for super y. I think DC soccer is doing it now. Most likely would get more playing time and coach love at a smaller club.z |
Arlington has certainly done this in the past, but not every year and not always in every age group. I think it probably depends on how big the player pool is for tryouts in a particular age group. DS played Super Y for Arlington several years ago and there were two teams in his age group. One was clearly the first team and one was clearly the second team but the experience was basically the same and both teams were very competitive. Same number of practices, same facilities, but different coaches (both very good). As the PP noted, both teams played the same slate of teams (and played each other, of course). DS also played Super Y for Arlington last year and there was only one team for his age group. I'm not sure what the plan is for this year in DS's age group (current U13). The first try-outs were last night. |
OP here. That is totally fine. DS's team last year was a good enough team for DS to be happy with it. I'm assuming it was the second team, since it had no Academy players and only a few red team players. |
It is ridiculous to be holding summer league tryouts in 28-degree weather in January. March wasn't early enough? |
