Bathrobe for after delivery

Anonymous
All hospital lists recommend a bathrobe for after delivery and I see all these beautiful floral patterns, but elsewhere I read that you want to stick with dark fabrics because of the potential for blood.

What has been your experience? Will I regret a light colored bathrobe?

Any other hospital must-haves/must-nots?

I never wore a bathrobe. I wore a hospital gown until I could shower and then I wore a nursing tank and loose sweats

I didn’t give a crap what I wore or about blood. You will be bleeding regardless. I wore the disposable gowns they give.

as long as you are in the hospital - mess up their stuff. I never used a robe. Just two gowns. And left it all there !

C section here. I wore PJs and a t shirt.

One thing I'd like to know is, if we bring our own grippy socks, can we get out of wearing those weird brown ones? Of I have another kid I'd totally bring my own.

I brought a large hoodie. Your lower half is usually covered, it’s your shoulders and back that get cold.

I liked a robe because it was easy coverage if I wanted to get out of bed or fill up my water bottle. But I run cold. Also, blood stains can come out. Just pre-treat laundry and/or use something like oxyclean. Those gowns are open in the back and I like butt coverage.

I don’t think so. I’ve had surgery twice and they made me wear the hospital ones both times (but just for the actual surgery, afterward I could wear whatever I wanted).

PP here. Also, robes have pockets which is nice for your phone, etc.

I got a fluffy warm black robe that isn’t particularly cute but is SO comfortable and, yes, didn’t show blood if I leaked postpartum.

The pretty floral ones are cute for pictures but not that practical.

I bought a fuzzy, colorful fleece robe at TJ Maxx for $15. I wore it over the hospital gown the entire time, I found my room to be chilly and the gowns are thin. It did get blood on it, but Everything washed right out and I wore it again to deliver my second. I also brought my own cozy grippy socks and granny underwear. I know lots of people love the mesh hospital underwear but I did not.

Other must haves: a loooooong phone charger cord. Your own toiletries/soap/lotions etc.

I bought a cheap navy one at Target and found it helpful to have.

I agree with all of this. I’ve had 3 kids and a comfortable warm robe+ what you mentioned are my post delivery hospital must haves.

Yup it’s not a hotel stay the robe you wear will be the last thing on your mind.

I disagree! I don’t think fashion should be a concern but I loved having comfortable items of my own to wear after delivery.
