Brisket and carbohydrates

Anonymous
I see conflicting info on the internet as to whether bbq beef brisket has carbs. Some sites say yes, lots; others say no. I assume that the former is assuming there’s some sauce and, so, brisket without sauce (even if it has a rub) is prob basically carb free. Sound right?

Depends some rubs have sugar in it. Why do you want to know?

If you’re looking at “bbq”, of course, every recipe will be different. So, as you’ve correctly concluded, the meat itself will have no carbs. Any rub or sauce could add anywhere from zero to a zillion carbs. If you’re cooking it yourself, then you can control the carb counts. If you’re eating prepared bbq, the only way to know for sure is to get the carb counts for that exact preparation in the exact portion that you’re eating.

Brisket itself doesn’t have carbs. It would be the add ins and ons that have carbs.,

Most rubs have a significant amount of sugar, which help create a (usually desired) crust on it. Add in any sauce, which would almost always have carbs.

some rubs have sugar and some don't.

Yes depends on the add-ins—rubs, additional sauces, etc.

JFC. Enough with the fixation on carbs and "clean eating." Brisket is a cut of beef. It's a big hunk of protein and fat. Eat a moderate amount of that, plus lots of fruit and vegetables, plus even occasionally some (gasp!) potatoes/bread/starches that come in recognizable forms, ideally that you've made yourself.

Fixating on the number of carbs in your spice rub is like making Snackwells a major part of your fat-free diet.
