This is so awesome infuriating! Yes - I know; mental illness. Blah blah.
https://nbc24.com/news/local/two-children-in-the-hospital-following-stabbing But these poor kids! Personally, I feel bad for: the children. (I know the other thread felt bad for moms who put their children in dumpsters to die): How can society stop the mentally ill from doing this to kids? |

“awful and infuriating”.
Nothing awesome here, sadly. |
They can’t. |
This is the part you keep missing. I feel bad for the mothers AND the kids. It is our society that’s creating these conditions that push people to their breaking points. Here’s a simple way to improve: universal health care. I imagine you’re against this and other measures to improve lives. As long as people are weighing the cost of getting help or buying food they’re going to self treat —and the results will continue to be tragic. Desperate people do desperate things. There’s nothing you or anyone can do to change this reality. |
+1 Unfortunately there’s no legislation or program or money to stop this. |

The vast majority of mentally ill people do not hurt others. They are more likely to harm themselves. |

Maybe but the ones who do make the news. There was a DMV mother who tried to cut off her sons head with a bone saw in 2018 too. |

There’s also this one.
A 38-year-old Virginia mother is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly trying to drown her 7-month-old son in the freezing cold Appomattox River last month, say police. https://people.com/crime/woman-arrested-after-allegedly-being-caught-while-trying-to-drown-baby-in-virginia-river/?amp=true |
How can this be true? They are all sons/daughters/sister/brothers/parents/spouses. The mentally ill are not islands unto themselves. |

That is heartbreaking and terribly sad! |

Here are a couple more headlines about mothers who murdered their child or committed heinous crimes against their child that led to the child's death. Makes me wonder if there are more of these murders that have been happening lately, or if they're just being covered in the news more often.

I think they used to be blamed on strangers or the fathers. Now with forensic evidence and CCTV people are less likely to get away with things. |
