Stop lifting so much heavy weight if you can't do it right

Anonymous
I see so many people at the gym attempting to lift weights that are heavier than they should be using. They'll be using a machine to do the eccentric portion of the movement, but then completely let the machine go so that gravity does the work of returning the machine to its original position. Do y'all realize you're only getting half a rep done each time because you are failing to use good form to get good eccentric movement? You need to use a controlled form/motion during returning the machine to its original position. If you're the lat pulldown machine, for example, pulling down the bar is only half the exercise. You need to let the bar up with smooth controlled motion to get the other half of your rep. Letting gravity do the work for you by letting the lat bar fly up and using no muscles to control it is cheating yourself. Stop using so much weight if you can't muster good eccentric movements.

Wow you really spend all of your time at the gym observing other people?

Wow I bet you’re fun at parties OP.

OP gets really mad when people don't scrub between their toes in the gym showers. "You're not getting a full wash!"

So OP just started lifting and recently did a trainer session and is now the authority on being a true gym bro. Sick.

You’re right OP.

Today’s vocabulary word: eccentric

This dude kept watching me at the gym and then came up to me. He went on and on about how I wasn’t getting good eccentric movement. I told him to get his eccentric ass away from me.

Eccentric? interesting choice in words here.

OP you care way too much about this. It's not your body, it's not your equipment, and you're not losing anything because of this "eccentric" behavior by others.

Why do you care so much that you had to come here to rant about it?

Because people are dumb. First off, when you don't use controlled eccentric movement, you risk injuring yourself. Secondly, I can't stand it when morons let the machine slam because they let gravity do all of the work instead of using well controlled eccentric movement....it ruins/breaks the machines/equipment.

You are wasting your time exercising if you can't do smoothly controlled eccentric movements. People use piss poor technique during the eccentric portion of an exercise because they're often lifting too much weight and only think they need the concentric portion of the exercise. Dumb.

The only valid point here is that people shouldn't slam weights.

And you are absolutely not wasting your time exercising, ever. It is still burning calories, building muscle and stamina, and helping your mental state.

Not OP, but I get annoyed by the loud, earth shattering clang. Couldn’t care less if these people aren’t doing the move correctly, I just don’t want them to screw up a machine I want to use later.
