It has nothing to do with age, but yes there were two hot women on stage Sunday night.

There will always be hot women willing to strip for the limelight. And plenty of men thrilled at threads like this where women who question it are shamed and called ugly, fat or old.

Smdh

Keep shaking that empty head of yours dummy. Why would question what another grown woman does with HER body ??

Because there seems to be no nuance here. And absolutely no line. Would you be ok with and JLo getting completely naked on stage? Because it sounds like most here would think that’s empowering. Why not have sex while they’re at it? Where is your line? That’s my question.

I don’t need someone covered head to toe during a performance. But to dismiss this performance as perfectly acceptable with no sexual innuendo is being deliberately obtuse. It was a highly charged performance and I understand why some who wouldn’t want their kids to see it.

And now go ahead and take me over the coals for having an opinion different than yours.

There were 3 independent companies hired to censor her outfit, dance, and performance as well as the camera persons' work.

So what I think is it was already sufficiently censored for severely conservative audiences and the complainers are way out in left field and most likely racist because they are only criticizing women of color.

Isn’t Shakira white? I’m getting really confused here. If she is white, I criticize them both. If she’s not white, then it just so happens I would be criticizing 2 women of color because that’s the only demographic that was performing. Take your ridiculous “oh you’re racist” assumptions and shove them up your a$$.

I'm not sure if you're racist, but you're definitely ignorant.

How so? Latinas can’t be white?

Also, JLo is a dancer first, and singer second--do people here know that she started out as a Fly Girl on In Living Color in the 90s? She's not a strong singer, but because she's incredibly hardworking and ambitious, she was able to parlay her success into acting and singing gigs.

I just read that she did gymnastics, ran track, and was on her Catholic high school's softball team--that totally makes sense, given how athletic she still is at 50.

Yes!!! I loved her as a Flyy girl, loved her on Selena. I was not a huge fan of her music initially but in recent years I am on board. Most Karens on here probably only know her due to Ben affleck. Learn about global culture. Learn about global music. And you know what? Maybe you will teach your kids that you are so worried about not to be so judge of other women and you’ll raise kids who believe in solidarity

Great quote:

"The policing of Black and brown bodies is as old as slavery and colonialism itself. Our bodies have long been regarded as dangerous weapons that lure otherwise faithful white men from their marital beds; our wombs serving as thieves of government checks stolen from more deserving citizens; our curves are dangerous distractions that serve only to pollute the innocent minds of young boys and girls. Where the Black and brown man’s body is a symbol of criminality and violence, our bodies — and how we move and dress them — have historically been labeled as having more sinister and vulgar intentions."

Also:

"It is the kind of rage that easily unites white women with misogyny under the guise of family values and moral preservation and protection. And it is entrenched in racism and cultural ignorance."

+1

Shakira and JLo are Latinas.

Nothing more, nothing less.

This thread is a combo of the two discussion boards mentioned in the article. Maybe it's just me being optimistic, but I feel there are more positive posts than negative here.

Shakira and JLo showed a lot of insecurity about their womanhood and latinhood.

Two regular anglo dancers from Las Vegas could have done what they did, and better.

I dont detect any jealousy in your response. None at all

So negative opinion automatically equals jealousy?

Yes. Yes, indeed.

Excellent then. This tells me all I need to know about those who speak negatively about Trump.

False equivalence.

All I know is white women have no rhythm, they dance with no cadence ( if you can call that dancing ) as If the music doesn't even exist . The same women who wear pink pussy hats and claim to have the right to do with their bodies as they please are the same ones trying to police what other women should and can't do with their bodies . There goes white feminism for ya !

Jealous bitches who are 43 and look like they're one their last leg can only hide behind false concerns and manufactured apprehensions . How many of you are that fit ? Cue the ' we're not millionaires 'lame excuses . Haters are gonna hate , winners are gonna win.

I'm with you on the ridiculous pink hats, but someone who calls someone a "jealous bitch" sounds like a hater to me.

And a racist for that matter.

She also taught dance classes in NYC before her big break. She taught Kerry Washington.

The pink hats are the ones who are the ones who always bitch about women’s rights, yet when a woman does express that, it’s “omg it’s so bad and slutty”

Make up your mind.

And stop wearing those hats, you look stupid with them. 40 year old soccer moms fighting for the oppressed and capitalism...while you take pics on your iPhone and sip your Starbucks.

If it helps you to sleep at night to categorize all white women who didn't love the Super Bowl performance as racist 'Karens' and 'Beckys', than so be it. You are narrow-minded and ignorant in your stereotyping though. I don't care if it's Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, J-LO, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Brittney Spears, etc. Miley Cyrus was disgusting at the VMA's years ago. Color does not matter at all in this situation to me but I realize some individuals no matter what will always find a way to throw race into it.
