Why is MCPS winter break so short? Many districts give two weeks along with a week off at thanksgiving.
Two weeks is enough time for kids and teachers to really feel they get a break. |
Agree. |
We made the change in Fairfax County a few years ago. The two week break is glorious. |
MCPS starts too early. Also, the MCPS calendar starts too late. Also, the MCPS calendar ends too early. Also, the MCPS calendar ends too late. Also, there are too many days off during the school year. Also, there are not enough days off during the school year. |
Yes |
When I grew up it was always two weeks. I prefer the calendar ending early as we have one camp that our child would have to miss school for. |
Nah. I’d rather they have the kids other random days off during the year instead of a longer Winter Break.
OP, check your privilege. Not everyone in MoCo has the money and time to travel to London over Winter Break. For us poors who have to work, it’s nice to have the kids back in school after 10 days. |
I’m French. Schools have a shorter summer vacation (less brain drain), 2 weeks in the fall around All Saints Day, 2 weeks for Christmas, 2 weeks in winter, and 2 weeks for Easter.
How I wish my American children could have the same calendar here! |
Dear God, what a bore. |
MCPS has 180 days of school "officially" these include days where each class in HS is 15 mins long because it's really an early release day, or there are zero classes. because it is a pep rally.
The schools need MORE teaching days, not fewer you absolute numpty. |
2 weeks would be a dream |
Move to FCPS district. |
2 weeks would be awesome. But this is MCPS and the type A parents who live here freak out if school is even reduced by a half day. They would prefer reducing summer vacation to 4 weeks and just have kids in school all the time as it is more convenient for them. |
That’s the schedule we had overseas and it was great. So much better for students and teachers. |
Yup, our FCPS friends say the same. DCPS went a different direction, with a Feb "ski week" off. I would prefer we go the FCPS route. |
