Or, vetribladder chews? |
| Worked great for my senior Yorkie. Used it intermittently over a couple of years, whenever she started having incidents of peeing while lying down. |
Thanks! Incurin-right? |
|
My one year old puppy started incurin about a month ago.
We're now down to an every other day dose and things have stabilized but for the first few weeks, while it helped tremendously with the incontinence, my dog was an entirely different dog. She became nervous about everything. She was obstinate and unwilling to walk beyond a block from our house. I was in in tears many times over my frustration with the changes. It felt like all my work at socializing and exposing her had been poured down the drain. It's still new to us obviously so things may change, but I'm not yet convinced I will continue it long term. But things are much, much better now going into week 5 on it. |
Thank you so much for sharing! I hope your pup returns to her normal self very soon! May I ask-how bad the incontinence was and if you considered natural Products? We are flooded with so much info and are trying to figure out the best way. |
| Bumping this post up, hoping to get a few more responses. Thanks in advance! |
She got to the point where 2-3 times a week she would leak in the evenings when laying down in the period between her dinner and bedtime (when she goes into her crate). Most of the accidents were just leaking drops, not full pees, though it started as full pees. She tested positive for UTIs twice when the fuller pees were happening but then negative 3 times and she was still having the leaking incidents. It was always when she was laying down, semi-sleeping. Not intentional peeing. I didn't consider natural products simply because I was exhausted and exasperated and was really hoping for a quick solution. Plus I really like and trust my vet and feel comfortable deferring to him since this is my first dog and I have zero experience or background in anything animal-related. Probably when this pack of incurin is done I will have her go off it for a while to see what happens. Maybe then I will consider some natural supplements for maintenance purposes if she's doing ok. Also may try switching to Proin if the problem comes back when she's off the incurin. |
I hear you and hope it resolves after one pack! Our vet is pretty confident about its safety as well. But wondering since I have heard people giving DES once or twice a week as opposed to everyday or every other day with incurin. |
From what I understand with my vet at least the goal with incurin is to get down to the minimum dose possible. I don't think he has mentioned only once a week but 2-3 times a week is definitely the hopeful plan. He specifically said that people choose incurin over Proin for the less frequent dosage; that with Proin you have to give it every day. |
I have started the natural supplement route, if it does not work I will try incurin. It has less side effects than Prion or DES, and has been in use in Europe for a while. This gives me a little more confidence. |
Please share how the supplements work. I heard mixed reviews! |
| What causes the need for this, particularly in a younger dog? Just wondering what to look out for. |
You wont need to look out for it-it will be there loud and clear. In young females after spay some can leak intermittently or regularly dependent on the urether muscle tone. Some vets correct it with prion, and some with hormones. These treatment durations vary dependent on the frequency/intensity of the leaks-some dogs respond to 1x-3X weekly doses and some need everyday. Whether natural supplements work or not, does not seem to be well-known. |
+1 Pkease update on supplement results. |
