In July last year, former Washington Redskins announced it would change its name and logos ahead of the 2020 NFL season. They would be temporarily known as the Washington Football Team until a new name was chosen. Over a year later, no decision is public about a permanent name.
Washington Football Team name options Sporting News reported back in July that WFT narrowed its list of potential nicknames to eight possibilities. Tanya Snyder, co-CEO of the team, stated they are: • Red Hogs • Defenders • Armada • Presidents • Brigade • Commanders • Red Wolves • Washington Football Team So apparently, Washington will reveal new name and logo in early 2022 Any bets on which name they will choose? Which one do you think sounds the best? |
| Red wolves |
| Presidents |
| Ew |
| Surprised Red Tails isn’t one of the final contenders |
| Red Wolves is the only decent option. |
| I like Washington Football Team. I hope they keep it. |

Process of elimination might help
• Red Hogs (doubtful) • Defenders (unlikely since that is only half of what makes a team great) • Armada (maybe given strong DC ties to the military) • Presidents (maybe - very DC specific) • Brigade (nah, sounds too parochial) • Commanders (maybe but sounds bit generic like a computer operation) • Red Wolves (probably the most catchy) I would whittle it down to 3 contenders Red wolves Presidents Armada What do I know though ? |
Whoops and meant to say Washington Football Team as well - so four contenders Maybe the two most likely are Washington Football Team and Red Wolves Then again, how would I know? |
I think it’s too generic to the trademarkable IIRC |

Some of these will write the headlines for the media:
Defenders is bad for a team with arguably the worst defense in the NFL: Defenders Can't Defend, AGAIN Commanders Blow Commanding Lead And WFT automatically conjures up: WTF WFT?!? |
| Red Wolves or Red Hogs |
