I'm not a baker, so maybe I'm just really naive, but tarts are quite shallow, so I'm assuming far less food cost than an actual pie... yet seemingly 2x to 2.5x the price. $150 for two 8" tarts I'm picking up tomorrow. Are they just charging what they think UMC people will pay for pretty tarts during a holiday or is there justification for such a cost?
Damn. I was so lucky I was gifted two pies from local bakeries this year by business vendors.
I guess you could almost justify it if there's a lot of fruit on it? But I'd never pay that much.
I’m in the wrong business. You are getting ripped off. |
Overpriced
This is absolutely absurd.
I'm the OP. They are super pretty tarts, I'll give them that. And I know they use top-rung ingredients. But again, an actual fruit pie is going to be full of fresh fruit and have a butter dough on the top and bottom, often a pretty design on the top. Seems like food costs are far higher for a fruit pie, right? But fruit pies are never more than $20 to $30.
Yes, and you proved them right. Times two! |
Where the heck are you buying your baked goods? I've never seen a pie or a tart that cost that much. Sometimes cakes, but I assume that's because the decoration is so much more time-intensive? (Not that I buy $75 cakes, but still.)
I’d never pay that price.
Where is this?
That’s insane.
$75 is insanely expensive for an 8 inch tart. Even the trendiest pie shops in Manhattan are "only" charging $50 per pie.
Whoa. I just ordered 2 French pear tarts for $50 from a local bakery. And I know they are delicious.
Is it a pot edible? If so maybe worth it!
