Biden and Kamala seem underwhelming to put it mildly. Pete, equally does not seem up for it. Warren, Bernie are getting on in years. Booker? Meh. Most of Nancy's leadership team are octogenarians. Yang...well let's not even.
Is there anyone exciting and viable to track on the Democratic side? Republicans at least have their pet pols in DeSantis, Noem, Youngkin etc. Who do you foresee generating any kind of excitement for the Dems? I look at the current bench and just get depressed. |
Well it was Cuomo but that’s not going to happen. It’s an interesting question. Many have have been pushing Stacey Abrams but I think they’ve seen how their diversity hires work out. Eric Adams is an interesting blueprint for a sane democrat. Bill Maher is probably the closest the liberals have to a smart, informed truth-teller who isn’t afraid of the mob and is completely inoculated from the woke BS. |
What about what's-his-name, that baby Kennedy who was up-and-coming a few years back? Whatever happened to him? |
He got spanked in his Senate race to Markey. |
Short answer: no. The last primary showed we have huge problems. There isn't anyone charismatic and smart enough on the public stage (yet). I thought Governor Whitmer looked good for a while but she seems to have fizzled out. |
Cory Booker is the best option.
Joe Manchin really knows how to advocate for his people. Michelle Obama is a sympathetic figure with a platform. I guess Hillary is still around. |
It's an intriguing question. I really don't know what 2024 will bring on the Democratic front.
A thought did pop into my head. Kysten Sinema. Yes, I know the progressives feel betrayed by her, but this mess is partly because of the progressives. They are not electable on their own. Right now the WaPo is reporting the biggest Republican lead for congressional votes since 1981! But Sinema could be the moderate Democrat who wins a lot of respect from Republicans and could keep the states Biden won if Trump runs again. |
Wow. I JUST posted this - same thoughts! (sorry for dupe thread)
"With the caveat that I will vote for the Dem ticket in '24, no matter who it is and that I'm generally satisfied with Biden's Administration I still think this is a question that deserves serious consideration. I think 2020 was a basically a major repudiation of Trump more than it was an endorsement of Biden. I don't think Biden has any competency issues, but when I hear him or Pelosi speak it's clear they are old. Very old. And while I want to love Kamala Harris, I just...don't. I was hoping that she would take a much more visible role as VP in an effort to groom her for the 2024 nomination. Maybe that is coming as we roll into 2022, but I have not been impressed so far. I find it to be a bummer that the Democrats are SO BAD at their messaging. The one person that I consistently observe as on the ball and getting the message across is Pete Buttigieg. I kind of hesitated to post this because I know it will bring out the trolls, but it is something I have been thinking about. Then again, Trump may run with on of his kids as his running mate or with the corpse of Rush Limbaugh, so who knows." |
I posted the below (duplicate thread). I'm a 50 year old woman who is definitely center left and I find Sinema to be kind of cuckoo, but I'd take a look. Mayor Pete has the best "presence," which is why he did well before. He is great at messaging and turning right wing attacks into dust. That said, I'm not sure he's really ready. But people would get excited to vote for him - he has charisma and wit. I realize the Democrats are now the "big tent" party but they have sucked at developing their talent. |
Probably Newsom. He can win California on Super Tuesday and lock down the SF/tech money. |
If John Fetterman wins by double digits in PA-Sen, his buzz will only increase. |
Tim Ryan
and a host of Governors. |
Andy Beshear.
John Bel Edwards might have a future if the Dems agree to let some subset of cultural war issues be decided by the states. Mark Kelly Kirsten Synema Job Ossoff Raphael Warnock Tammy Duckworth Ben Ray Lujan Of this lot I’d rate Warnock the highest. There’s probably folks in the House as well. Obama was a freshly elected Senator this time in 2005. |
Buttigieg is as close to exciting as I can think of among the younger group of potential candidates. Booker is a has been. Kennedy is a lightweight. Hate to say it, but Abrams can't win for obvious reasons at this point in our history. Sinema - seriously? I had high hopes for Kamala Harris, but she appears to be being sidelined for some reason. There are standouts among the progressives, but they're just too progressive for most of the country. Unless a dynamic, charasmatic candidate like Obama shows up (and even he probably couldn't win right now), Buttigieg it is. |
She just spent a week in Europe shoring up foreign alliances, she was on the Senate floor over the last 48 hours breaking ties and she was on the podium at the BIB signing. That isn't being sidelined. That is a right wing talking point to undermine her credibility. |
