Assault at Wilson today

Anonymous
DC was shaking with furor and adrenaline at pick up. Evidently, DC's last class finished up 15 minutes early, and since it was a beautiful 70 degree day, the teacher decided to lead the kids on a quick stroll outside.

As they left the building by the main portal, two guys hanging out by the door, without apparent provocation, blind-sided one of the departing students by slamming him over the head with a laptop so hard the LT broke. The boy was knocked unconscious and taken away in an ambulance. Police were on the scene immediately.

The teacher and some kids gave chase, but the attackers sprinted away towards and down Wisc avenue. DC is unsure if they were even students.

DC got a good look at one of the attackers. One hopes the police will make the effort to review surveillance video from neighboring businesses etc that can be used to ID them.

I have no idea of motive, etc, but it is totally unacceptable.

Wow this is very disturbing. I do hope the victim is okay and the perpetrators are caught and prosecuted. There should be security cameras.

Terrible.
Sounds like they knew the victim and were stalking him/her. Otherwise how would they have known the students were leaving 15 minutes early?
Hopefully they will catch them.

OP. Motive is unclear, but based on DC sussing things out with classmates via text, speculation includes
- older brothers taking revenge on kid who beat up their sibling
- drug dealers taking revenge for one thing or another

They could have been waiting for him whenever he left.

Hope the victim recovers and does not have a TBI.

Parent here. I was parked by Fort Reno for pick up. It was complete chaos. Police blocked off streets and then gave chase. Fire truck. ambulance.

Kids were milling around and talking, not even fazed. They are so desensitized to incidents in the school, they weren’t even reacting.

Recently there’s been more police presence in Tenleytown after school. Maybe there will be police posted directly outside the school.

I hope the victim is OK.

Please have your DC be careful. Don't want them to be the next target.

I was wondering about the increased police presence in tenley at the end of the day. What is going on… it’s really scary.

I think it’s fair to say most teens are unfazed by a lot these days regardless of what school they’re at, whether it’s in McLean, Anacostia or Tenleytown. What exactly do you think they’re all looking at on their phones all the time—kittens playing with yarn?

Hope the kid is okay. Will ask DD about it.

How exactly is this the school systems fault??

That’s not ok that kids are unfazed. It’s trauma or mental illness or something else but it’s not normal

OP again... I didn't say it was.

But now that you mention it, if the attackers were *not* students, yet attacked a student on school grounds during the school day, then the school has some 'splainin' to do.

was the teacher authorized to take students off campus for that walk?

I didn’t say or imply that it was okay. It’s absolutely not okayI was responding to the poster above that was saying that the reason they’re so unfazed is because of other incidents at school. This isn’t just about Wilson. This is about teenagers everywhere. If you’re not concerned, you’re not paying attention.
