More like 40 kids per teacher. |
Yeah, that was a dumb statement. You can't tell from looking at a group of kids whether they are "fazed" or not. What do you expect to see? Sobbing, tearing out of hair, rending of garments? |
| I am a Wilson parent and did not receive any communication from the school. Did anyone else? |
Yes! Exactly my thoughts in reading this. |
| Is there any public report or news story of what happened? If not, still a lot of speculating here. |
They are probably the school issued laptops. Because while it sounds like a good idea to give every kid a laptop, many do not treat them well. I worked at a school years ago that gave out laptops and found out that a bunch had been sold by students and ended up in Puerto Rico. |
| Physical violence is up at my daughter's middle school also. Administration says that it is because of kids having been out of school and needing to adjust. |
Yep..so a teacher can take kids out for a stroll like normal humans on a fine day. But for some reason the school/police/Wilson parents/Mary Cheh have decided that outside of Wilson at dismissal is a scene from Purge. Only neighbors with their eyes and wits about them are alarmed and raise objections. |
Lot of good that has done this kid. |
What good do you think that will do? |
Disincentive assault? Are you seriously asking this? |
Yes, because we know it doesn't work. |
Less police, not more please. |
Serious assault reported recently at Montgomery County high schools, including BCC and Blair...look at the postings in that forum. Doesn't excuse any of it but it is not DCPS or Wilson specific. |
I agree strongly with having police less involved with mental health and other situations where social workers would be more appropriate. I also think that cops in elementary and probably middle schools are a bad idea. However, as someone who attended a high school much more violent and worse run than Wilson, I was delighted when they assigned a cop full time to my school many years ago. Having an adult in the school with the actual training to intervene in the crime that was going on (and arrest people when needed) was great. And, when a small number of kids were arrested and didn't come back, the school changed for the better. |
