Any preschool teachers here?

Regular short-hour private preschool teachers?

What do you really want as a holiday gift? Cash? Gift card? Gift (like a scarf or gloves)?

Do the lead teacher and teaching assistants expect the same amount?

TIA

I’m a preschool teacher & if a family gives me a gift card they always give the same amount to the assistant. I think that is standard & nice!

I'm a preschool teacher in a half day program. I appreciate all the gifts my families give me because I know they want to thank me. But to be honest, I donate almost everything that I receive, unless it's candy or a gift card. Even some candy gets thrown out if no one in my family likes it. And I have also received gift cards from stores that aren't near me (for example Whole Foods - I don't even know where the closest one is.) I get lots of coffee mugs - I have a set of coffee mugs that match my plates and I don't want a "Best Teacher Ever" mug. I've been given smelly soaps, candles and lotions. I don't use smelly lotions and I prefer liquid hand soap. The one gift that I do use is a decorative scarf that the children made (they did some type of tie dye.) The parents noticed that I like wearing decorative scarves - I wear one almost every day. But unless you are certain that he/she will use it, I would suggest just a gift card to Amazon or Target.

I've never asked, but I do think at our preschool, both the teachers and assistants usually are gifted the same amount.

Cash, please. The gift cards are nice but cash will allow me to pay household bills.

I'm a preschool teacher at a school like the one you described.

Most families gift us a gift card and many also add something else along ie: chocolates, cookies, special bath gels. Gift cards range from $25-$100 per family. I love the gift cards (or cash) and I always save them for something I wouldn't buy otherwise.

So to answer your questions cash or gift card, and consumables... I don't need more clutter in my house. Please no mugs or pens etc

I'm a special ed teacher, and have taught preschool and older grades. I always feel terrible when people give different amounts to me and my assistants.

I don't mind if you give different things if the difference reflects what you've noticed (e.g. one of my paras loves crazy socks. I don't usually even wear socks. On the other hand, I'm a mom and she isn't. So, if you gave her crazy socks and me a picture frame to put my kids pictures in, as long as they were the same price range? That would be fine). But different amounts? I am not a fan of that.

Thank you for this! Good to hear cash is better; I always feel dumb paying whatever activation fee for a gift card haha when I could just give the teacher an extra $5.

I do $50 per teacher (Target gift card) and a great fancy snack (I have done a coffee mug in lieu of the snack before)
