I just DCUM'd my family

Anonymous
They tried to put 7 adults, 2 teens, and 2 ES age kids in a 3 BR house. We announced that we would be staying at a nearby AirBNB.

We (the ES age family) and the family with the teens are thrilled. The older 3 adults not so much because "we're never all together!" I'm falling apart over here in my day to day life, and can't take off from work pretty much ever and am not using my 1 precious long weekend sleeping (or rather, tossing and turning) on the floor, especially when we're the ones traveling 7+ hours to get there when everyone else is within an hour or two. I tend to be a very unselfish person, putting myself aside for others, but it's time to draw the line and take care of myself.

Congrats!!!

That is a smart call and I am sure the hosts are secretly relieved. You can stay from morning to evening and just sleep and shower in your AirBnB. No biggie.

Congratulations on not subjecting yourself to discomfort for no good reason!

Way to go! We need to see more stories like this!

Go OP! We broke the seal on the AirBnB over the summer while visiting my ILs. We said it was because it was a working vacation for me and I needed quiet, which was true, but we also just wanted the privacy. Now we’re doing it again for Thanksgiving and it wasn’t even a conversation. My youngest is never sleeping on the floor of my MIL’s craft/junk room again!

Absolutely the way to do it! Brava.

Or you can actually spend time at your Air BnB to get a break. It's really ok to do more than just shower and sleep there.

Who plans trips like this and why didn't someone speak up much earlier? Where was everyone going to sleep?? Two teens are basically adults in terms of sleeping needs.

Tell them to get a bigger house next time. The end.

Yes. Why would they need to be at the relative’s house for 16 hours a day?

I have learned this is just very family dependent and some families expect togetherness from the moment everyone wakes up until bedtime.

My parents always stay in a hotel and they take lots of breaks and time to themselves. They have zero interest in staying in my home with me and would think it was weird if I suggested it.
