DC redistricting specifically for Ward 6

So I read redistricting is going on now. I live in Ward 6. Is there any danger that Trayvon White will come to represent any part of my current ward? Basically, does redistricting benefit or hurt Ward 6 from the perspective of a wealthy tax payer?

OP, your post is kind of gross. I think you don’t want to be represented by an AA council member. I’m in Ward 6, also wealthy (not just UMC) and could not care less if I am redistricted (I’m in Eastern Market).

Ward 6 had the greatest growth in population while wards 7 and 8 had slow growth. That means some parts of Ward 6 will have to be transferred to one of the other wards. Some of Ward 6 could possibly shift to Ward 2, but there is a good chance that some will end up in 7 or 8.

It's not like your ward councilmember is the mayor of your ward. They represent you at the D.C. Council, the same way a member of Congress would if we had one. As far as day-to-day life, it's still the office of the mayor that makes much more difference in how you experience city services, etc., no matter who your councilmember is and who they think does or doesn't control the weather.

Not the OP. But I also don't want to be represented by an anti-Semitic, anti-vaxxer, incompetent elected official. Has zero to do with race. I have been happy with the leadership provided by many mayors, councilmembers, and other elected officials who are Black. But I do not want to be represented by Trayon White. (FWIW, I also do not want to be represented by Charles Allen. And he is White.)

It is an embarrassment for our city to have Trayon White on the city council. It is inconceivable that a loon like him could potentially end up our mayor. Where are the adults here?

Since it is, as you say, "inconceivable" that he would end up mayor, the adults are obviously all over. Trayon White would have no chance in a mayoral race. Hopefully your are not confusing him with Robert White, who also faces long odds but who has at least a realistic chance.

There are virtually no downsides for running for office. He gets free plublicity.

At the end of the day, we’ll get another liberal mayor and city council. They will pander to ward 8, pander to liberal causes like ensuring police can’t do their job, they’ll tax the rich and make the business climate inhospitable compared to Virginia… blah blah the dc government and many of its services, and websites, will remain unnecessarily complex or poorly functioning and we will all have a coke and smile and stfu like good little helpless plebs. The wealthy in NW will feel good about voting for a Democratic type like Robert White and they will continue to insulated from many of the worst polices by Geographic separation from where most crime occurs, and sheer wealth and they’ll have their cool yard signs proclaiming how virtuous they are even those they’re the top 9.9% or higher and who fking cares it’s Friday.

The city is something like 85+ democratic. Yes, the next mayor will be liberal. Just like every other major city in the country.

Except they’ve already explicitly stated they are redistricting with an eye to not diluting the power of minority voters. They will never loop in enough parts of UMC Capitol Hill for us to vote out his anti-vax, anti-Semite, useless @$$.
