Which would you choose?
Range would be 48 in (6 burners and griddle) with two sides to the oven (one large, one small) Cooktop would have the same 6 burners and griddle and then 2 36 in ovens. Cooktop and double ovens are cheaper. Both would have gas for top and electric for ovens. |
| I would do induction. Gas is terrible for indoor air quality. |
| Induction with a double oven range. |
| I definitely do not want induction. |
+1 I hate induction |
|
I would love to have either. Probably takes up less if it is the range/double oven combo right? |
|
In answer to the question, I would choose cooktop and ovens. It would be nice if the person using the stove did not have to get out of the way of the person baking.
I know, because I grew up with the cooktop/oven situation and have only had ranges as an adult. Yes, I should have gotten over it by now. I haven't. |
And you can't cook induction with a pacemaker so what's your point? |

It really is just a personal preference. I had three houses with a cooktop and double wall ovens, and now I have a range. I prefer the range. It’s more convenient to me to have everything in one place. I can check on what’s baking quickly while I’m cooking something on a burner. When I take something hot out of the oven, I have a place to set it down.
I have one very large oven in the range, and then I have a separate small Breville convection/air fryer/etc that I adore that is on the countertop next to the range. This is actually my ideal configuration, except when my built-in microwave dies I’m going to replace it with the Breville microwave/convection/air fryer & reclaim the counter space. https://www.breville.com/us/en/products/microwaves/bmo870.html Now just waiting for the person from the real estate forum who kept arguing that a La Cornue range with double ovens was “cheap” and that ALL high end homes must have double ovens. |
La Cornue is not my style, but it is very high end. |
| We did gas range with single oven + separate electric convection wall oven + microwave/oven combo. Expect to use all available cooking space for thanksgiving and the like but for now select the box based on the item being cooked and seldom use all at once. |
If you don’t have a answer for the OP’s actual question, STFU |
It's amazing how successfully the gas lobby has convinced people that their product is desirable and safe. If you are into the environment or health, it is worth looking at other options: https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2020/5/7/21247602/gas-stove-cooking-indoor-air-pollution-health-risks |

We didn't have the same dimensions but similar decision points to go thru for our recent replacement. We moved into home with cooktop and separate oven. Desparately wanted a double oven but didn't have the space for a separate cooktop and double ovens that all fit into the space. Something to keep in mind, if cooktop is going over the top of the oven, it may be easy to swap out cooktop later, not sure of the options you would have if you want to change out the oven. Sort of counter intuitive to by a range if you only wanted to change out a portion, however, there may be more options for replacements over time and not sure how many standalone (assuming under counter) double oven options there are down the road. We were standard 30in so I am less familiar with 48in options.
Also, cooktop changes may require extra work depending on what counter they are going into. Not insurmountable, you just need to consider it if it is going into granite or something. We had a handy man come and cut out the granite that had been cut custom for the cooktop to put in the range. Luckily, the cabinets were just enough where we didn't have to truly cut into the cabinetry for the swap out (had to work with different vendors because many will cut granite but don't want anything to do with existing cabinets. Just all things to consider for down the road dimensions and change outs. |
| I've had both. I like the range..may regret it just a wee bit on Thanksgiving day with a smaller second oven, but I will adapt. It's just nice to have it all in one place-I do often go cooktop to oven, especially with a cast-iron skillets or dutch oven. Mine is a dual fuel...gas on top, electric oven. |
