Spanberger touched on the historic nature of her victory, which will make her the first female governor, following 74 men. Her husband, she said, told their three daughters: “Your mom is going to be the governor of Virginia. I can guarantee you that those words have never been spoken before.”

Spanberger returned again and again to the idea of bipartisanship, saying that her campaign for governor in Virginia earned votes from Democrats, Republicans and independents. “I believe in this idea that there is so much more that unites us as Virginians, as Americans, than divides us,” she said.

A small number of Virginia localities have reported most of their votes, and they all show Spanberger outperforming Kamala Harris’s 2024 showing. Some of the largest shifts so far are in Loudoun County, a highly educated D.C. suburb, and Manassas, another suburban area, which has a large Hispanic population.

Surry County and the city of Waynesboro voted for Donald Trump in 2024 but flipped to Spanberger in this election.

Spanberger took one of the few swipes at the Trump administration in her speech when she talked about the furloughs and mass layoffs affecting thousands of federal workers in Virginia. “Virginia’s economy doesn’t work when Washington treats our Virginia workers as expendable,” she said. “And to those across the Potomac who are attacking our jobs and our economy, I will not stand by silently.”

It's not that close. Decision Desk called it a while ago. 52% Dem/48% with 95% of the vote in.

Ms. Spanberger, in her victory speech in Richmond, said Virginia “chose pragmatism over partisanship” and “our Commonwealth over chaos.” Her win — while not a major surprise — came in a state that is home to scores of federal workers, contractors and others whose lives are intertwined with the federal government. It could signal a rebuke of the president’s downsizing of the federal government in his backyard — and could result in fresh pressure on his party to end the shut down of the federal government.

Glad she has a good liberal arts education from UVA and intelligence community experience--she is not going to fall for the okey doke of foreign-influenced actors in the population and who are our govt now.

Every single Virginia County showed a strong shift towards Dems relative to 2024.

Manassas and Prince William County +16 Dem

Well, yes. In this environment, it's always a plus to have a Governor who isn't a Russian asset.
