+1, and to ignore the racism in the major awards academies as though they are an objective measure of someone's talent or skill is deranged. The Golden Globes, in particular, are notorious for being racist, insular, and engaging in a lot of nepotism -- the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a deeply correct organization and was even more so during the height of these actor's careers. That's not a knock on Garner -- she was good on Alias and she deserved to be recognized for her work. But it is classic that the GGs have her Best Actress in a Drama during a time when actresses like Edie Falco, Allison Janney, and Frances Conroy were doing really amazing work with rich, textured roles. GG loves to reward an ingenue in a kind of shallow role and always has. It does not mean that Garner's performance on Alias was more worthwhile than those other actors who were, frankly, working at a much higher level.

This. Pop is a heavily manufactured musical genre and is much more about stage presence, dance, hooks, and having an appealing persona. JLo is a genuinely talented dancer who works really hard at her routines for videos and concerts -- she's a perfectionist. It's not like she's styled herself as a virtuosic singer like Mariah or Whitney and it's a sham. She's exactly what she appears to be -- I dance-focused pop act with Latin influence.

I don’t see how J Los rise to popstar is any more unseemly than the underage teeny boppers pushed into the industry by stage parents (Britney, Justin Timberlake, Christina, Justin Bieber).

Jennifer was 30 years old when her first album came out in 1999 and she went #1 with hits during the same era as the teeny bopper/bubblegum pop explosion . Highly unusual success for an artist at that age. Jennifer’s entire career is very dramatic much like her love life in that she reaches very great highs and then very bad career lows . But somehow, she always comes back from the lows

This is why she needs to leave her pop star and Hwood starlet ambitions behind and try Broadway . That’s the only way to prove she is a real singer/dancer/actress triple threat. Does she have the vocals/ chops for her beloved musicals (musical theater were her original auditions since she lived in the city, not a record deal or movies )? She really tries. She sang live during SNL and it was ok -just not very good or great for Broadway . I can see why she went the pop star route and movie star route since she had the looks .

Mariah was also a back up singer for another Puerto Rican singer named Brenda K Starr. Brenda also used to auditioned with her band and singers at the same studio J Los dance company rehearsed. There’s a rumor Mariah and Jennifer’s feud goes back to these years in Manhattan because they shared mutual friends and saw each other during industry run ins
