Also, DC privates make it tough to learn the truth in order to keep applications up. If the unhooked parents knew that their kid needed to be in the top 10% or at least top 15% at Sidwell, GDS, or STA to have any chance to get into a T25 college, a lot more people would choose public. |
Would disagree with this and most top schools you see listed as a kid of legacy/athlete and trustees. Wait until end of year to decide if more too 25 for unhooked. |
Wrong. Facts say private kids get in at a much higher percentage. The real news is that kids at easier privates coming in with 3.8 and 3.9 GPA’s or 93 grade average are raking in the admission spots at top colleges while kids coming from notoriously higher ranked schools with 3.5-3.7 school averages are getting shut out. Never believed it until I saw it. Exception is STA with I think a 92 or 93 class average which is serving them well. So what does this mean? You all were right - GPA matters more than anything else. |
Meaning what? They are similar to STA or Sidwell? |
I posted about this yesterday regarding STA/NCS and my post was literally deleted. The schools are doing whatever they can to keep this information locked down. |
STA does not have a 92/93 class average. It's more like an 89. 92/93 is where the elite college admissions start. |
Weird that they deleted your post. |
This is 100 percent true. A lot of parents are reconsidering strategy for younger siblings. Why this is happening -maybe so many kids applying that there isn’t the time to review applications so a 3.9 stands out even if DC knows that a 3.9 depending on school is a very different t student. |
A lot of kids have 91-93 averages at sta which equals a 3.7-3.85 ish |
This is 100% correct except for a couple of the Duke admits that were unhooked but top students. The legacies/hooked students were mostly top notch that everyone would agree on. Will be very interesting to see how RD plays out for the unhooked indeed across the board! |
Not that many. The class average is typically about a 89. |
Yes---Kids at the Field School this year are doing incredibly well. They have super gentle and easy learning there--the kids get all sorts of re-tests, extra credit, project based learning, etc. But they graduate with very high GPAs.
Meanwhile you guys should see the SCOIR data from NCS. It is dismal for girls under about a 3.6. And guess what the class average is for 2025? A 3.5. The Ivies on the NCS Instagram this year? Those are the handful of 3.95+ girls. Things are going to get ugly. |
Sidwell doesn’t rank, or confer academic honors of any type (so there’s no cum laude society). Each college will have to figure out the “top 10% or at least top 15% at Sidwell” based only on who applies to that particular college. |
Are you sure the counselor's letter doesn't give an idea of where the student stands relative to their peers? |
