| A student in my DC grade was caught googling answers during MAP M. Parents were called and the student was taken to see the principal. I hope the student is reprimanded so that others learn from this. But just wondering how many don’t get caught cheating? And if this kid has been cheating through out? Especially during virtual and precovid? |
|
If this was a thing during COVID then it wasn't super significant because I think scores went down.
As far as googling, was it on their phone? It's really on the teacher to lockdown the browser, and also pretty much on the teacher if phones are out in the classroom. |
| No this was on the chrome book |
| Something is off with your DC’s story. The way the testing is done on the Chromebook, they can’t toggle back and forth. Googling on a cell phone is possible. |
| As a teacher, this doesn’t seem accurate. Chromebooks are locked during the testing. They can’t open any other sites |
Yeah the chrome books have software where the teacher can lockdown the browser so that students can't go anywhere on the internet but the test. Sounds like either this is not true, or the teacher made a big mistake and didn't lockdown the browser. |
Thats what my child told me that the browsers are locked. Not sure what happened and how the student was able to cheat and get caught |
But does the software works? Does it actually lock the browser or do they just say it to deter the kids? The incident is true and acc to my kid there was a whole thing with the teacher, parents and the principal |
It actually locks. It is not a lie… in addition to the teacher locking the computers, the teacher must walk around and monitor without any distractions. On top of that, the teacher is being supervised by an additional adult in the room. I find the cheating to be highly unlikely |
| Maybe the student found a work around or something. I know that mcps ‘blocked’ YouTube but my kids in elementary school figure out how to watch YouTube on their chromebooks. So doubt the mcps software to lock the browser is fool proof |
Yes the teacher was walking around and thats how the kid was caught |
I don't find it unlikely that they'd try to cheat. I also don't find it surprising that the plan to prevent cheating worked. I don't know how OP went from "someone tried to cheat on a test and got caught" to OMG people must be cheating rampantly! |
| Chrome books are locked during Map M. There is no way to toggle between screens. Unless he was caught on his phone or he is a computer genius who knows how to bypass every level of security. If he is a computer genius, why would he need to cheat on MAP M which is an adaptive test and adapts to all abilities? . Tell your child to stop spreading rumors. |
This. |
| This is how idiotic rumors get started. A mom from school called me and told me that my son is suspended for something stupid. She heard it from her son and another mom. My son had no idea what they were talking about. I called the school and they were not aware of any disciplinary issues. |
