Apparently test optional schools have gpa requirements of 3.6+.
Does anyone have recent experience with their child actually being admitted with a 3.5 and either no test scores submitted or 960 SATs? |
|
I think our a babysitter was that range. She’s at Bridgewater. My co-worker had a DD who was probably about that. Ton of rejection but landed at Longwood and did really well.
We’re in state VA. |
| Assuming you have a junior? 3.5W or UW? Because he can definitely get both numbers up some this year. |
| Check out Stevenson University in MD. |
|
Senior. Weighted. Applications are due in the coming months.
|
| Which state? |
|
Have you looked at State Schools - but not the main campus? When I lived in the midwest, we called them directional schools. Western Michigan, Frostburg State, Shippensburg etc

St. Mary’s of Maryland. Rejected almost no one from our Hs, including ones with similar stats and much lower.
Kids also getting in with those stats to Pitt but it’s the lower range. Other Maryland schools in play. What is he looking for? Lots of options. |
| I know plenty with those stats at various schools. Do you not have Naviance? |

I don’t want to be unkind. But, put stats aside for a minute. It won’t be UVA unless he’s seven feet tall and can dunk, but your kid can get into a college. 3.5W isn’t strong. But, it’s not a disaster. 960 is below average. But, not no college will accept him bad.
But, if you have a senior who made it to October of senior year with no college list, or even a clue where to apply, maybe he isn’t ready for college? Even if parents are not at all involved, my FCPS kid has had a junior planning night, a senior planning night, 2 mandatory post-grad planning sessions with her counselor. Cannot get the mandatory school rec without filling out the counselor packet. And having me fill out the counselor packet. She to ask for recommendations before last spring and compete surveys for her recommenders. Deadlines have already passed to request transcripts to some schools. Has he asked for recs, met with his counselor, etc? I guess what I’m getting at is if he has no idea at this point in the process, maybe he isn’t ready for college next year. Has he considered a gap year? Or community college and transfer to a 4 year school. Is he just not engaging in the process. If so, maybe he’s not ready yet. Doesn’t man he won’t be in a year or two. |
No one accept for an athlete is getting into Pitt with a 960 |
He’s finally realizing he can’t get into the schools on his list and he needs to look elsewhere. He has teachers writing recommendations. FWIW, he’s met with some college recruiters who have told him they don’t even look at essays or recommendations and simply rely on grades and scores. That was the wake up call he needed to move on to a new list of schools within his reach. |
| What kind of school does he want? |
Not true. Many kids did. I can’t say whether they submitted test scores or not, but their gpas with consistent with their scores. They are clustered - not outliers. |
| Well its SAT range is 1260-1440, so … |
