3.5, sub 1k SAT: where can he get in?

I think we have to question whether everyone is intended to go to college. Perhaps he should learn a trade - it's hard to imagine college providing much value at that SAT score

I feel like there’s missing information here. Maybe he could get approved for extended time on the SAT?

There are plenty of successful college students and graduates with that SAT score.

So share what your child is looking for -
what energizes them?

What was the dream school before they had an awakening that it was not an option?

There are lots of options - and ways for your child to have a very successful college experience. And I think very valuable that they learned now that they need to adjust their plan.

As a VA resident- have you considered Old Dominion?

It’s possible admissions is more generous for full pay Marylanders.

There are also many good in state options in VA— old dominion, Radford, Longwood, uva-wise.

Private full-pay, he could get into basically all of them but Washington and Lee, U Richmond, and Hampton.

I had a similar gpa and that exact SAT score in the 90’s. I have a PhD. Some of us take a little longer to bloom. Things have changed in college admissions since then, of course. However, if he wants to go to college, there are school that will accept him and give him the opportunity to mature and flourish.

We liked Old Dominion, Lynchburg and Roanoke. Or Marymount, Shenandoah, Frostburg.

Maybe schools like Iona or Marist

I think I got a 1010 as my highest SAT score. I was terrible at math and not so great with timing. I have 2 graduate degrees. Most schools are test-optional now so that's to his benefit.

Does anyone have recent experience with their child actually being admitted with a 3.5 and either no test scores submitted or 960 SATs?

Never heard of GPA minimums for test optional. Sounds like a myth.

Kids also getting in with those stats to Pitt but it’s the lower range.
Other Maryland schools in play. What is he looking for? Lots of options.

The SAT needs to be bigger for St. Mary’s

Retake the SAT there’s still time
