So based on yesterday’s online meeting, will there be a test for magnet high school?

They said, "Criteria-based application programs my use multiple measured for admissions. These could include school performance data, a scored essay, and report card grades." (this is around minute 27 on the video)

The FAQ says, "The admission process for criteria-based programs uses a multiple measures approach that includes both district-level and externally-developed assessment of students. The data that will be considered include the student applicant responses, report card, student services, and an external assessment."

So the FAQ says there is an external assessment, but it's not clear whether that means CogAT, as in past years, or MAP scores. The meeting didn't clarify this.

My kid went through the process last year, and they didn’t include “external assessment” in the language, only something like “school-based assessments,” meaning tests like MAP and PARCC that everyone takes in school. I think it’s safe to assume “external assessment” means cogat or similar.

Not always. They often favor well-behaved kids who give them the answers they want.

I had a teacher tell me that my DS wasn’t really all that in math in third grade. He was bored out of his mind and coming up with other methods to do the math to entertain himself. Reading books instead of doing the Fast Math apps on the chromebook, and not really getting good grades. He’s killing it in his math-science magnet middle school right now.

Yes, but they'd never do anything that sophisticated and also I've read these tend to be racially biased so guessing they won't do this.
