| In several boys age groups, SYC has added a Gold team this year. In the older age groups, it is a new fifth team at the club which is unusual. Does anyone know the background on these teams - are they coming over from a different club or previously independent teams? |
| The Gold Boyz? |
| More money. Ask Loudoun or Arlington. They’d have 10 colors if they could… but we all know once you look past the second team it’s glorified rec for parents that have money - which is not something unusual in this market area |
Any club would have 10 teams if they could. The truth is that there is a big difference between rec and even a 5th travel team. Usually it's the commit of the kids and the parents. Many parents are willing to pay the extra money to have that commitment, training, etc. even if the kids aren't much better than the average rec kid. And...some of these 5th teams are still better than some club's 2nd teams. So you really didn't provide any useful information. People choose to spend their money as they wish. If you want to post what you spend your money on and let everyone give their opinion, go right ahead. |
Two seasons in a row now, the worst and second-worst player on my youngest kid's rec team has gone to the "third" travel team in a league. The lowest teams are WORSE than most rec teams. |
| From what I've seen on the field, it's a cash grab. |
LoudoUn disagrees. They’re creating champions for life. Or so they say. Try not to laugh. |
It's definitely nicer to be with teammates who have more/consistent skill and discipline along with the desire to improve. I wouldn't spend Travel team money on that if my kid was on the 4th/5th team though. You might as well take that group into rec and have a real fun time. Or on an individual level just play rec and supplement with private training until your kid can make it to the 3rd team or until it's no longer worth while. |
gold is above orange in some age groups so |

They had more players interested than there were teams. How is that a cash grab? Why shouldn't they add more teams if there is enough demand? Who cares if they are not high level enough to meet your standard. Everyone has different standards and willingness to pay. By your definition, isn't every team a cash grab, even the top team? |
| Gold = REC + |
Demand != Talent Putting kids in bad situations and lowering the level of competition so that parents can feel special about their children = cash grab. |
What is the purpose of these soccer clubs? They are a business that allows kids to play soccer. More teams = larger player pool = better top teams = more good press = attract more good players. Rinse and repeat. Parents with kids on 3rd and 4th teams know exactly where their kids stand. They aren’t being duped out of their money. So your position is that there shouldn’t be lower level soccer teams? Unless a kid is good enough for a top team they shouldn’t train more than once/week on a rec team and shouldn’t be allowed to play fun leagues and tournaments? |
Sorry you're taking it so personally. |
