The truth is that there is a big difference between rec and even a 5th travel team. Usually it's the commit of the kids and the parents. Many parents are willing to pay the extra money to have that commitment, training, etc. even if the kids aren't much better than the average rec kid. And...some of these 5th teams are still better than some club's 2nd teams. So you really didn't provide any useful information. People choose to spend their money as they wish.
