| If affordable it’s an excellent education with engaged professors and small class sizes. Students can develop very close relationships like a SLAC, but with a bit more size and all that comes along with it. I don’t believe there is any point in saying it is not as good as xyz or better than abc. We can all read rankings and value them as we see fit. In the band of schools it is in, it’s a great option for a strong education and a fun four years. |
| Emory no sports, not interested. |
Unless you are up to a couple of select schools, which excludes even Duke, the "oh you couldn't get into X" thought will probably still apply. |
Totally agree. But the direct comp to Duke is much more relevant than for a lot of other schools. It's like the old "JMU means 'Just Missed UVA." Or some of the other Big 10 schools are that way with Michigan. |
Do you remember when they were notified about the scholarship weekend? |
Emory and wake are the same tier. Wake actually wins cross admits. |
High schools kids consider Emory where fun goes to die. Not popular at all at our private. |
24 vs 51 is not the same tier. Most students arent applying to both schools. In fact Wake doesn't get that many applications to begin with. |
I'd rather my child went to Wake. As for not that many applicants, with a 22% acceptance rate, I don't think there's an issue here. |
No one cares about the dei rankings. Emory does well by DEI measures because they take a ton of questbridge kids. |
My kids are at top private in our city, far more kids apply to and attend Wake than Emory. And kids going to Emory are not in top 20 percent of class. |
| I visited with my older kid during Covid when they weren't giving real tours, so we sort of snuck onto campus through Reynolda Village. I remember it being pretty enclosed and gated. Do kids live there all 4 years? Where do they live off campus if not? Is off campus walkable to campus? Are the evenings spent on campus largely? Parties on campus? |
| The kids who love Wake and the kids who hate it all describe it the same way: "It's a country club!" |
|
| Emory vs. Wake? They're equally mediocre, but I'd take Wake for the sports and the funner vibe. |
