I don't know anymore. I've said it both ways to myself many times today and am thoroughly confused about what I usually say. Thanks OP!

Dana Carvey also does "Chopping Broccoli," which seems relevant here.

3 syllables for broccoli. PNW.

I had someone argue with me about my pronunciation of mule. I use 2 syllables and she uses one. I can't even say "mule" with only one syllable!

The same person says "strypt" for striped. I say it with 2 syllables. She's from Baltimore, if that explains anything.

This sounds crazy and could be it's own spin-off. Mule/Striped have one syllable for me. I get that you are probably saying mew-el like a southern accent (they can even draw out the word 'you' to 2-3 syllables) but I have no idea how you'd pronounce striped with two syllables.

There was no mention of broccoli in my part if the world until 2000's. We just say it as we heard it as adults on TV, with two syllables.

Highly relevant. I’m from Minnesota and say brah-co-lee, not because that’s the regional way of saying it, but because of Dana Carvey.

I read it as 3 syllables, but say if with 2 when ordering.

No. New Englanders are too classy to order "beef and broccoli". We're too busy with our relish trays and martinis.
