Arghh jeans in 2024....

I am 42 and have been loving the super wide leg trend. I think they look great if styled properly and are really comfortable. Get a ton of compliments from older and younger people. I am 5'7" and 145lbs if that matters. I say go for it.

These look exactly like the gloria vanderbilt jeans i buy on amazon for $18
Gloria Vanderbilt
Women's Classic Amanda High Rise Tapered Jean

I like them because they have just enough stretch to stay fresh all day and I can get them in my length (i'm tall and thin)

even though they are very inexpensive they feel the same as all other jeans -heavy, metal zip, deep pockets, good colors.

Can you describe “styled properly”?

I think the key is balance. If you're wearing wide leg, then your top needs to be cropped or tucked, and form fitting. If you had a tunic or dolman or loose top with the skinny it won't work with wide leg.

That being said I'm still wearing skinny and flare and ripped boyfriend. The last set of trousers I bought for myself were cigarette pants instead of wide. I am going to aim for the classic at 40 look. I am 5'2 and slim but not skinny.

Another vote for ditching the high-waisted jeans! Midrise looks so much more natural and flattering on the female body.

OP, I'd aim for a trouser-style jean with a mid-rise. Not too wide leg, not too skinny, but more shape than a straight leg.

I think there are use cases for all, and i have all.

- high waisted wide legged 'sailor style' - smarter look, wear with lug boots, khaite and frame have cute ones.
- truly 'baggy - in which case for our age group they need a little bit of a barrel leg and i would wear only with flats or slides, pair with slightly fitted t shirt or tucked in sweater
- high waisted straight leg - either need to be slightly cropped or barrel cropped (and by cropped i mean ankle NOT above) and can wear with a heel or flats. some ppl seem to be able to wear with sneakers but no idea how.
- skinny - still a place for these!

Uhhh no, those look nothing alike.

Gloria Vanderbilt is about as far as you can get from on trend denim.

Similar body. Most of my denim is original, women’s straight leg Levi’s 501 but I also have some men’s straight leg, mid rise rigid cotton from both Gap and Old Navy. I wash once on warm, shrink once in dryer, and they fit like a dream after that and I hang to dry from that point on.

Sure, but it’s like if someone says “tell me your fave vegan dish” and someone waxes rhapsodic about Beef Wellington.
