What is your take on the Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt divorce saga? What happened on the plane?

I don't think Brad & Maddox have ever had the same relationship that he has with the other kids (which is not surprising given that Mad was a lot older/had been with Angelina longer when Brad came along).

I think Brad had substance issues, but not so bad that he couldn't mostly keep a lid of them. Once this happened, he went cold turkey to get his kids back; I admire that, especially since he probably had enablers around him telling him (not totally unreasonably) that he wasn't an addict and just had to cut back some.

I think Brad is fundamentally a good guy as evidenced by his many friends in Hollywood and his relatively clean rep. Even this incident mostly got ignored other than in the immediate aftermath.

I don't think Angelina is as damaged as some in this thread. I think she's a bit BPD, but not a fundamentally bad person. I do think she was done with Brad and his increasing quest for normalcy and used this incident to get the clean split she wanted (remember she already had the house ready to go, not exactly the sign of a spontaneous marriage rupture).

From what I read, Brad was drunk and argumentative with Angelina. I’ve never read that he physically attacked her. However, the oldest child tried to intervene and Brad got physical with him, likely shoving him hard. Maddox isn’t tall and he’s slim. It wasn’t right for Brad to put his hands on him.

I've read that they just had very different visions for the future. He was tired of globetrotting, wanted to settle down in LA and have a more normal life. She wanted to continue traveling, or maybe move to London and do more humanitarian work. Who knows. As for Maddox, Brad probably perceives him as more of an adult than a child. So when an 18-year old gets mouthy with you, you treat him as another adult in a brawl, not a kid. Still not right, of course.

I think there’s a lot of truth to this. I also think Maddox has a very different relationship with his mother than the rest of kids. Angelina has always gushed about how Maddox saved her life when she adopted him. That’s a lot of pressure for a kid.

Maddox is also the only one of the kids who remembers a life without Brad. Until Brad came along, it was just him and Angelina (she divorced Billy Bob right after she adopted him and raised him alone after that).

well he was about 18 months old so I doubt he remembers much of the pre-Brad life

I think Brad had an affair with the costar he was rumored to. Angie didn't want to admit he did the same thing to her he did to Jen. So she waited for another opportunity to leave.

Tell me more about this theory PP. Because I think Angelina is a textbook narc, and Brad just seems like ... an actor who seeks a lot of affirmation and identity from the women he's involved with, plus alcohol/pot dependency issues.

Well ... Angelina just pings my borderline radar - particularly adopting all those kids. She also has a history of self-harm. And abandoment/abuse issues from her father. Her life seems more unstable & dramatic than narcissistic to me.

I had the same impression of Brad as you (dumb, alcoholic) but I think there’s more there now. I think she fed his narcissism (at first).

I am not the pps but also think its bizarre. She has absolutely walked the walk, she's a UN ambassador! They don't hand that out to every celebrity looking for a country to save (coughMadonnacough). I mean I'm sure she's a complicated person and clearly she has issues with stable romantic relationships but it is bizarre the level of hate people have for her.

It seems to revolve primarily around a wild and crazy 20s period (and like, MOST female celebrities have rough 20s) and the Brad Pitt thing. I think everyone thought of JA as Rachel from friends and were personally devastated when B&J broke up. That's the only thing I can think to explain it honestly.

Brad grew up in a pretty typical household in Missouri with a mother who was a school counselor and his father who owned a trucking business. He experienced a stable home life.

Angelina grew up in LA with a dysfunctional family. She has nothing to fall back on.

I mean yes but why do people like Brad then? He’s done all of the same things she has. He cheated on jennifer Aniston, he slept with Robin givens when she was married to Mike Tyson, and dated multiple teenagers. Only difference is Brad Pitt is the producer on a lot of amazing movies like Moonlight.
