BASIS McLean admission

I like this one where the Niche question:

64%
of students and parents agree that the teachers genuinely care about the students.

Basis is 64%!!!! That is basically 1/3 parents and student feel these teachers don’t give a crap about the kids!!!

Madeira was 90%
Potomac was 95%

These other 2 “lesser” VA schools have good poll number there. I want my kids to go to a school where 9 of 10 teachers give a damn about my kids or more. Not 64%.

Maybe because the teachers in BASIS don't inflate the score

I kept asking DC whether to continue with Basis and the answer is always positive. DC likes his new friends/classmates and teachers. Workload is rigorous but managable and still have time for outside time-consuming activities. Younger sibling in public right now also wants to change to Basis after visiting it for an open event. I am a bit dumbfounded regarding how the perceived reality being so different from the opinions here.

No need to be dumbfounded. Basis trolls and sock puppeting. More than once. No one believes any of the threads or positive posts are real or in good faith.

How about negative posts? My kid loves Basis eventhough review here is so bad. Day and night difference!!

So happy for you. Congratulations.

Another parent of a happy student here, but in a lower grade. The Basis marketing troll posts aren’t any worse than the toxicity of parents trying to beat down a relative newcomer that is doing well, and keep climbing both in rankings and enrollment the past 2 years. Let’s see how things look for the 2023 - 2024 year. Hope the haters enjoy being such such tough keyboard warriors and clever bullies.

Oh, but they are worse. People aren’t allowed to do that. Also, it ruins it for any valid Basis poster because now the school has a rep for fake posters. That’s not honest. Calling posters out for their BS is allowed. You may find it toxic, but it’s honest.

No issues with the honest criticisms, I’ve criticized Basis myself even as an overall happy parent. It’s the “honest” sarcasm and insults that are over the top. It’s a great school for a niche audience, and some parents find it attractive with the students who are there doing very well academically especially in STEM. Some parents will find the narrow focus off putting. The marketing and trolls are cringy, yes.

Schools that market themselves as the "top" school while their track record is bumbling and stumbling invite and merit sarcasm. That's a classic response to arrogance and pretense.

The fact that posters on DCUM were caught out by admin trolling and posing as many parents at once just cements the image of an unreliable school.

All fair game for public comment. If taking dings for their actions is "insults" then so be it. That's how life works for people who want to game their way to the top. Ask Congressman Santos about that.

The trolling is just in your feverous anti-BIM imagination.

You are gas lighting pure and simple.

The fact is that BIM is one of the top privates in the DMV.

Correction BIM is the top private in the DMV.

Heard that DeSantis has already put in a request for his kids. His wife will move to Washington only if her kids secure admission. Niche has reported DeSantis as the #1 candidate for 2024 and It all depends on the kids being admitted to BIM.

LOL no. DeSantis would never fit in with the godless heathens at BIM. Oakcrest and The Heights are more his style.

I think there’s a level of truth to those low numbers. People just need to remember those ratings and reviews are cumulative, while the rankings are done every year. So it is entirely possible that Basis has historically had a lot more problems, while the last couples years have seen drastic improvements. Only problem I have is people dissecting the anonymous ratings and reviews think those are credible while the ranking methodology must be completely fudged. They don’t like to see Basis doing well because they have some preconceived notion of how the school must be doing and anything else in reality that’s out of like with that list is just fraud… OK.

Wow, feels like the math must have touched a nerve. And to be clear, pointing out the absurdity of the math on ranking is simply a microcosm of the already-comic delusions that Niche rankings are anything other than pay to play.

I hope the school is awesome for your kid(s). Really.

Nothing more.

Well, yes. It touched a nerve in the sense that I think there is a reason behind your observations. An accumulation of historical ratings is not the same thing as a current year snapshot. Thanks for participating in this micro-cosm you speak of, just don’t be so hypocritical in taking one set of numbers while ignoring the other set. Nothing more from you? Good, case closed.

My point is that the overall rating is, of course, absurd. But, if you want to promote and accept the #1 rating, you have to accepting the supporting evidence that students and parents think that teachers don’t care about them, that the kids are not creative, that clubs are under supported and that people are miserable.

Go Red Tailed Whatevers!

BASIS parent here. I am always thinking that everyone can get into BASIS of you apply because they don’t have enough students. But I just heard from another parent that her friend’s kid get rejected after taking a test.
