When you make it to 80, you can come on here and preach about health, longevity, and what to do with your money. Until them, shaddap. |
Yes, my husband is very fit and gets breakfast there a few times a week when traveling. He does the egg white delight McMuffin. It’s less than 300 calories. Before they retired it, I would get a grilled chicken sandwich and not eat the bun. |
I am 56. I frequently order from their dollar menu because the portion size of regular sandwich is so big. Start by nixing the fries and soda first though. They are really bad for you. |
People incorrectly beleive that diet is somehow going to magically extend their life by a material amount. It won't. It may increase your quality of life some, but there is likely little or no evidence that a person who eats mcdonalds every day will have a shorter life. |
Old people eat like birds. Very small portions. They aren't shoveling in the Big Mac extra value meal plus a shamrock shake.
An egg mcuffin has 288 calories and is pretty basic. An english muffin, ham, real egg, cheese. That certainly won't kill anyone |
This isn't a popular opinion but I think the role of diet in overall health is overstated in our generation. I know just as many people - actually probably more - who have lived an 'unhealthy lifestyle' especially WRT diet and have outlived those who didn't. It's just a crapshoot. |
+1 I’m cracking up this is amazing |
I miss that egg white delight!! |
A Happy Meal is a reasonable serving of food for an adult. It's not super healthy (high fat, fillers), but it isn't going to give you a cardiac event, either. |
I think genetics has a lot to do with it. DH and I eat similarly, but I fight prediabetes and high cholesterol and hypertension, and he doesn't. My parents died young. His parents are immortal (and very healthy in their mid-80s). |
While I agree with a PP who said the socialization is good for them. Have you never overheard the conversations these 60 to 80-year-olds are having? Almost all of their conversations revolve around their doctors appointments and upcoming procedures. They're living long not because of McDonald's, they're living long because they're greedy boomers who looted the nation and retired with obscene pensions and platinum lifetime health care. They piss away six- and seven-figures on end of life health care WE have to pay for! All so they can drive to McDonald's every morning in their new $80,000 Corvettes or top spec pickup trucks. |
+1 My grandmother was thin her whole life and had no heart problems, etc. Died at 102. She loved McDonald's but never ate things like the fries or soda. She ate things like McMuffins, maybe the occasional burger or McChicken. |
An egg McMuffin with the thin piece of ham is hardly unhealthy. It's just an steamed egg on a piece of bland bread, basically. Most of these cheap boomers just abuse the free coffee refills for a couple of hours. I think a cup of Mickey D's coffee is only like 75 cents if you're a pensioner.
And most pensioners don't eat a lot, so if they do eat a breakfast sandwich, they probably don't eat again until early dinner at 4 or 5 p.m. |
PP here. And yes, the socialization was good for my grandmother. |
They do not do free coffee refills at mcdonalds. |
