My eight YO does this too. We told him to stop because he already explodes his pull up about once a week so it can’t take the extra liquid. He gets it and stopped.
I probably would if I could too! I don’t get why it is embarrassing to you. |
This is terrible advice. Every ped in the world will tell you this is common. You can accept it or scar them, but you can’t make bedwetters stop wetting the bed by force, practice, or just ignoring the problem. |
Wanted to add he also walks around in a soaking pull up in the morning. We have a rule that he has to be in underwear for breakfast or the Sunday morning call to grandma to cut down on it. |
Is he embarrassed at all walking around in a wet pull up? In my experience, pull ups are just not meant for overnight use. They only hold a certain amount and wetting it again in the morning would definitely cause it to leak. |

1. Have you had her checked for constipation?
2. Why are you putting a pull up on her in the evenings before bedtime? She should change herself into it right before she gets in bed. Otherwise, yes, you are inviting laziness. 3. Have you checked her right before she wakes up to see if she is already wet or do you think she wakes up and pees in her pull up because she doesn't want to get up to go to the bathroom in the morning? 4. Sometimes you just need to wait it out - mine needed a pull up until she was 7. She was a very heavy sleeper and a puddle of pee did not wake her up on the nights we tried without a pull up. We'd sometimes walk in at midnight before we went to bed and she'd be soaked. She needed it until she was physically able to hold it all night. 5. What does her pediatrician say? You've asked, right? |
She is not constipated. That is one of the first things her pedi asked/checked. I didn't know they could be related until she explained it to me. I don't put a pull on her per se. She gets her pj's and everything on after bath and we never had an issue with her wetting it when she was awake. We implemented a new rule here where she can only put it on before bed. I do check her when I go to bed about 1.5-2 hrs later and sometimes she is already wet. I know its something that we just need for her to outgrow and I never get upset with her if she wets the bed when she is sleeping. I never expected her to wet her pull up wide awake. There were many times we tried without a pull up but always had to fall back on them for everyone's sanity. |

I hope
1) You didn't make a big deal out of it 2) You did make her change it |
Maybe it is time now that the weather is getting warmed to buy a bunch of sheets and mattress protector and let her wet the bed. Maybe the bio feedback of feeling wet as she urinates will help her stop peeing in her sleep |
It is not common at 8. https://www.webmd.com/children/guide/bed-wetting-urinary-incontinence-children Use an alarm device that wakes up the child as soon as wetness is detected. This is "conditioning training," which, if used steadily and consistently for three to four months, appears to work at least 75% of the time. The devices are inexpensive and readily available and should be tried before any medications. |
| i was the same when i was her age actually. i use to lay in bed with my pull ups on and pee in it. i was scared to get out of bed to use the bathroom because it was dark and I felt safe in my bed. also its really really weird but it almost gave me comfort to pee in my pull up. the warmth felt nice. again I know its extremely weird. i grew out of it when I was 12 |
Did your mom know that you were doing that? Did you actually need them for bedwetting or because you didn't want to get out of bed to go to the bathroom? |
| Thanks, makes me feel a lot better about our situation |
| Bedwetting alarm time |
| Accidents happen, better to have the pull-ups than a wet bed though. It’s more common than you think. |
MY DD stopped at 14, We did try to limited drinks before bedtime, but didn't help as much, she found out her friend they were (12 at the time) was also wearing pull-ups at night, it came up because she was talking about how she wasn't allow to drink an hour before bedtime, and her friend told her she drinks what ever she wants cause she will wear a pull-ups at night, so she doesn't care if she has to change at night she will just wear a new one.... |
