My cousin swears on the Keto lifestyle

Yet everyone is on it- and they’re seeing results. Is it basically starving the body? I don’t get it yet.

Your body uses carbs as the goto energy source, buy restricting carbs your body is forced to use fat and protein as an energy source. You are not starving your body of anything, Keto Flu is nothing. You might feel sluggish for a day or two but thats it. Drinking some warm bone broth between meals dealt with the keto flu for me. Also make sure you have a lot of prepped food and snacks on hand to grab when you are hungry

For me it's always a lot longer than a day that I feel crappy, but I agree that it's not starving your body of anything. Your body has this mechanism/ability for a reason. It's how we evolved to eat.

It's the carbs in everything these days that's unnatural and causing a ton of health issues, not to mention packing on the pounds.

It’s not really bad breath, it’s a distinguished sweet/acetone like breath and it should only last while your body adapts. Once you’re fat adapted, you shouldn’t that’s that issue anymore.

So my percentage of fat is probably not where it should be for Keto. But when I look at the videos of people who have successfully lost a fair amount of weight on Keto, they aren't going overboard on the fat, either.

I’ve done that too, but not having enough fat doesn’t give me the full benefit of keto. I’m get many more benefits from it if I add more fat to my diet.

That's the part that's confusing to me. How does adding more calories into your food help with weight loss? I've seen people putting butter in their coffee?! I just can't...

The idea is that sometimes people are overweight because they’re unhealthy. Certain types of fat are healthy.

Keto is high fat low carb. You’re not starving yourself at all. I’m trying to lose 20 lbs and currently eating about 1600 calories a day. It’s focused on real food (nuts, green veggies, olives, protein). I am currently obsessed with pan fried Brussels sprouts -super crispy- with grilled chicken, lemon and a little grated Parmesan. The food is so good and the fat keeps me full. I am super thirsty but I think that’s a normal side effect. Like pps said the keto flu is not a big deal. I had a headache and low energy for about 2 days. Totally manageable and salt, bone broth and electrolyte water made me feel better. It’s just a very short term mild discomfort while your body resets from all the carbs. And no I don’t put butter in my coffee. Tried that once and I agree - bleh.

I have bone broth in place of my morning coffee. I've heard that you can add a splash of heavy cream to it to make it creamier and richer, I haven't tried the heavy cream, yet. I've also been enjoying chicken and brussels sprouts prepared with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and sprinkle of parmesan. something about that combination of chicken and brussels sprouts keeps me feeling full until dinner which is great.

I also browned and seasoned ground turkey with taco seasoning, I stirred in a package of cooked frozen spinach to the meat and topped with a little cheddar cheese. It was really good and satisfying.

In Keto macro wise carbs are a limit, protein is a goal, and fats are a lever. If you are craving something having a fatbomb can help curb the craving and keep you on track.

Breakfast today was water (IF). Lunch is a salad with romaine, avocado, and grilled chicken. Snack will be macadamia nuts. Dinner is salmon, roasted brussels sprouts, and a creamy spaghetti squash casserole leftover from last night.

I might whip up some keto hot chocolate, it's been a cold morning! Breakfast tomorrow will be an omelette with spinach, peppers, onion, cheese (whatever I have in the fridge), and avocado.

Today I had bone broth for breakfast and a serving of sausage and sauerkraut for both lunch and dinner. I snacked on olives today.

What is bone broth? That sounds gross.

It's basically stock but made with bones and not (necessarily) vegetables.

It's one of the things people used to eat back when we weren't all eating processed crap all day.... back when people were much healthier than now.

This. It has protein in it which regular broth doesn't have. When you eat Keto your body loses water and I've found that bone broth (with it's protein and salt) is a good way to replenish in the morning. I also drink lots of water.

Yes, mine gets awful. It’s not even the fruity breath people claim you get, it just outrights stinks no matter how much I brush/use mouthwash/chew gum, and my mouth feels like it has a dead squirrel in it.

Keto also doesn’t work for my physiologically, I feel terrible and can’t stomach all the fat and protein.

I've been doing Keto/IF for about 60 days and have lost 22lbs. After much research I decided to incorporate the bone broth. I got this kind.

I fast from 8pm until noon next day (16/8). If I drink this in the morning (9am) is that breaking my fast? And if it does, does it really matter? Will it make a difference?

If anyone can chime in, please do.

I'm doing what you're doing except I drink Pacifica. I have googled this question about whether or not drinking bone broth would break a fast and have found that most agree that it does not. Maybe down the road when you are working on taking off the last 5 pounds or so that small margin will matter but I have found that it does not matter. I've still got a ways to go before I reach that point. It's important to stay hydrated and keep your electrolytes in balance. Bone broth helps you do that.

I tested my morning urine with a Keto strip and I am definitely in Ketosis, the scale indicates that along with my hunger level (or lack thereof). I'm down about 10 pounds in a little under a month. Very little in the way of exercise, just working on increasing my steps throughout the day.
