Does every mom own a North Face Jacket?

Depends on your perspective. $250 doesn't seem that hefty when you're wearing Tory Burch boots.

Re: "Outdoorsy"

NF was originally designed as expedition-wear & gear. NF used to, and still does actually, produce high-quality gear that was meant to be used hard, but not break/tear/rip. Of course, when you design products where your life depends on the quality of the product, it comes with an equally hefty price tag.

So now, fast-forward to today. NF now produces a whole range of products at different price points for different consumers. But the difference between those products is pretty big. The cheaper NF stuff is not 3-ply goretex. The cheaper NF stuff does not have taped seams. The cheaper NF stuff is not ergonomically perfect. Does it have to be? No. But the whole point of the non-expedition NF is to provide the look of the real stuff, but not the functionality at the lower price.

If you are looking for the functionality at a lower price, there are plenty of other people who do it better than NF, in my opinion.

Full disclosure: I am a backpacker, rock-climber, snowboarder and spent the vast majority of my youth outdoors. I know I have a biased opinion, but it is based on my experience with buying what I could afford at the time, and seeing, first-hand, the difference between the cheaper gear and the more expensive gear.

Now, if you are really upscale, you skip all of that and get a Moncler jacket.

NorthFace is outdoors gear. DUH. They sell it at LL Bean, Dicks, REI. Do you get the name "NORTH FACE", know what that is referring to? And it's not that cheap if you are buying the actual gear to hike, climb, explore, ect. Upwards of $1000 plus dollars.

North Face jackets can be pretty expensive and all of the boots at Tory Burch are under $500 right now....

....because it's spring and they're all on sale.

North Face is fine if you're young and going skiing. Though it's still on the lower end for ski jackets.

I have to laugh at this thread because I know one drifter (who cleans yards and does odd jobs for a living) and one nearly-destitute dogwalker who both wear black North Face jackets.

Yeah, but isn't that the stuff for people who actually climb mountains? I thought we were talking about the long puffy coats. (So happy I took this mental health day!)

Is it one of the mountains near K2 or a side of one of the mountains?

11:15 here.

Yes, I do what the North Face means. For those of you who don't mountain climb, and don't care about such things, in the northern hemisphere, the "North Face" is generally the harder side to climb because of way weather and wind patterns work.

Outdoorsy, while walking your dog in Rock Creek Park when it's 40 degrees outside, and outdoorsy, while backpacking through Montana carrying a 80 lbs backpack in the rain are two different things for me.

I don't see many NF jackets around, but I have to say that most NF jackets I've seen are on young (black) men.

I bought NF 9 years ago, well before having my baby and it is in great condition. It's also great for travel, because it's not bulky and heavy so packs easily.

All of the young black men that I know are drug dealers.

What a stupid post.

I'm not either of the PPs, but a lot of young black men in my neighborhood wear North Face coats. (BTW, I'm not saying they are drug dealers.)

My youngest brother wears one too, with his low-rise jeans and rock band baseball hats. (BTW, he's not a drug dealer or black.)

It's a toss up between what is uglier - a NF jacket or Tory Burch boots.

I am not outdoorsy - I hate the outdoors (in the cold, anyway!) - I have a NF jacket because it is warm - or at least I bought it thinking it must be warm since it's considered an "outdoorsy" jacket. Plain and simple - I am not a wanna-be or a trnd-follower - just trying to stay warm!!
