Understood, and much more legit than posting about a tournament you're not going to. That said, sarcastically sorry it's not a good use of your time. Make sure your son or daughter knows that you think it's an unjustifiable waste and that they won't be going next year. How many games did you expect? Last year's results were up on the website right up until the schedule was posted yesterday. |
Are you on the organizing committee? If so, maybe take a hint that kids can play more than one futsal in a day. You don't have to lube the local economy by spreading out the tournament over four days. And, if you're going to do that - accept less teams and make the divisions bigger so that it's worth the trip by giving the kids two games a day. It's a shitty tournament in an even shittier location. |
I've been to this tournament several times, and I think if it was located literally ANYWHERE ELSE it wouldn't be such a drag to have games spread out like this. But Atlantic City is not somewhere you can really do kid activities. Even if you go to a "nice" casino to eat at a restaurant, people are smoking everywhere (and many are drunk). Most things are closed because it's the off season, you can't walk around to visit because it is so sketchy and gross (BTDT), it really, really sucks. Thankfully we have a decent group of parents who get along who will organize each day with outings for the kids, but that will entail driving to another town. And don't get me started on all the drunk people at hotels (even if you are staying at a non casino hotel).
Any convention center would be better. I have been to volleyball tournaments at the Baltimore Convention Center and the Gaylord convention center, both would work. Even that new complex outside of Richmond would work. But there is literally nothing remotely kid or family friendly about Atlantic City. I would rather be in downtown Baltimore than there. |
except that other teams also have to play, and the space is maxed out. You could have fewer teams, for sure, but it seems like the demand is there, despite the whiners on this board. |
cool story. don't go. |
Sorry that was unnecessary. Good suggestions. I think, though, that although it's kinda gross, Atlantic City is more centrally located for a Northeast regional and draws from Boston to DC, and even further this year. Maybe Philly has a spot. |
Huh? |
Most tournaments are like this with 1 game per day spread out. Some tournaments will even have "rest day" in between so it is what it is. It's optional. Nobody force you to do it but if this what your kids commit to - get used to it or tell your kids he/she won't be going.
and this is true for most tournaments for all sports. |
With a tournament this big (500+ teams), they should do one gender Fri-Sat and one Sun-Mon |
Volleyball says “hold my beer”. |
DS on older futsal team (HS) and they had to play two games this weekend (semi-final and final) on a single day. It was ROUGH, the ref wasn't calling a limited-contact futsal game. Lots of complaints after the game about bruises and knocks. For the older kids at least, I do think there is a limit to how many days they can play more than one game (even for futsal) and I guess the playoff stage on Monday is THAT day. |
Agreed. Or split by age groups. |
Or just have separate Girls Weekend and Boys Weekend like many tournaments do. This 530 team tournament is getting a bit too big for one weekend. |
Saw the half court is u14. Any idea on age for headers and length of halves? I didn't see either in the quick glance at rules. |
How's it going? Anything we need to know (heading up early in the morning for a first match)? |
