There are many articles evidencing Amazon's problems with sustainability. The original model worked well for consumers. It worked well for returns (actually fabulously well). Now we are entering the reality period where Amazon is adjusting for a model that is not sustainable. And it has let too many third-party vendors and cheap products into the plan. Hence, the articles on what Amazon is doing to adjust ... like its new return policies (if you haven't read, new procedures and penalties to punish return abusers are going into effect June 1). |
| This happened to me for the first time today. I ordered something yesterday and it said I would receive it by 10 pm today. It still says that when I check on it even though I haven't gotten an email saying it shipped yet and when I track it it hasn't moved to shipped yet. It's after 9 pm and I'm pretty sure it's not coming in the next hour. |
Yes, that's exactly the pattern. I don't understand how they can get away with this on such a large scale. |
I've been getting that "by 10 pm" notices for at least a year now but they never come at 10 pm or by 10 pm. They come the next day. In my book, not worth complaining about but I have noticed. I'm more upset by the drivers throwing stuff by our street-side mailbox, in the driveway, near the garage but not - as designated on the amazon site - on the front porch. rain has ruined a number of packages. That I complain about but Amazon bumps to UPS and UPS doesn't care so I don't bother complaining anymore |
It is not a large scale Amazon did well in the pandemic go to the store if you don’t like them |
What you're talking about is different, it's not just about it arriving the next day. The packages might arrive the next day, but usually more like 2-3 days, or more often than not never. You then have to wait a set amount of time before requesting a refund. |
Not everyone can get to a store, jesus christ. And just because it's not affecting you doesn't mean it's not happening. |
| Amazon definitely seems to have a lot more knockoffs/unrecognizable brands. Our delivery experience has been late more often than not. Our Amex covers Walmart Plus and I’ve had excellent service with items ordered online thru them. Occasionally they deliver early-same day from the store when I was not expecting it until mail tomorrow. I’m not ready to give up on Amazon yet but I don’t feel like they’re trending the right direction. |
That’s becoming increasingly hard to do. A few years ago, I was able to contact customer service representatives by phone. More recently, I was easily ably to contact CS reps via Chat. A couple of weeks ago, I was unable to find either a phone number or access Chat in a way that would allow me to talk with an actual human being. I kept spiraling through “help” pages and automated responses that didn’t address my questions. I wonder if this is just the way it is — or if it’s linked to the specific products I had questions about. Perhaps it’s easier to access chat if it’s related to more expensive items? |
| Perhaps it varies by location. I live in a large apartment building that gets Amazon deliveries daily. Most of my Amazon orders arrive within the time frame that’s originally promised. During the Christmas season, some of my orders actually come faster than the originally planned delivery time. The few delays that I’ve experienced have been from vendors who don’t ship through Amazon— something I try to check and minimize when I place my orders. |
| I haven't noticed, but I don't typically chose the next day delivery very often. In MoCo, and I just chose a "delivery day" of the week and have everything delivered on that day. |
This is such an issue, for a company supposedly obsessed with customer service why do they make it so hard to find a customer service number or chat option? |
| Yes, Amazon has gotten worse, even in the past few months. This is from a frequent Amazon Prime user in a major city for over 10 years. I’ve had items delayed again and again until I just cancelled the order. Returns are more difficult too. Most items are fine, but I just returned an item sold by Amazon, not a third party seller, and returned at an Amazon Hub that customer service said can take up to 30 days to process and refund. Ridiculous! Ready to jump ship. No more Bezos bucks. |
I think “supposedly “ is key here. In the time it takes for longtime customers to realize how bad it’s becoming, Amazon will have made billions of dollars. What’s even worse — to me — is the changes to the formerly stellar customer service at Zappos after they were bought by Amazon. As Amazon has taken over ever-larger chunks of the shopping universe there is increasingly less need to provide decent customer service to maintain their dominance. |
