Amazon delivery "delays" becoming norm?

I’ve noticed this too.

Before I had Prime, I noticed that if I ordered Christmas presents in late November or early December, Amazon just sat on my orders and didn’t ship them for 2-3 weeks, even though the items were in stock when I ordered them. The actual shipping went fast, they just wouldn’t ship for a long time. Then I became a Prime member and found they’d ship my items out immediately. This was pre covid. Although there are delays more often now, the vast majority of items still get shipped to me right away. If there’s an item I don’t need right away, I select a later ship date and earn a digital credit I can use to rent a movie on Prime Video. That’s the value of Prime.

As a PP said, sure you can get that digital credit to watch sub-par content with ads.

I choose Amazon day delivery. I either get a digital credit or 6% cash back on my Prime Visa. I very rarely have delays.

The next day, get an e-mail that they are so sorry... delivery is delayed. It will be delivered the next day. Currently have an item that is now EIGHT days from the date I ordered it! It's not anything unique or unusual - it's a damn Kindle FFS! You think it wouldn't take Amazon 8 days to deliver a Kindle.

What the hell is the point in having Prime if supposed one-day deliveries are going to be a week or more.

So cancel and shop elsewhere?

You have a very valid point. Why stick with Prime and pigeon-hole myself because I've paid for Prime and feel I have to use it. You are also right about quality control; some of the Amazon Prime products are absolutely inferior quality.

Inferior and overpriced. All big stores deliver just as quickly.

After a day or two you get a refund.

Well, you do have to use your brain and buy the right products! Brands like “WERTYU” or other random letter assortment are probably going to be Chinese knock offs with no quality control. This is on you, the customer, to search and compare products and read reviews with a critical eye.

If you don’t understand how to use Amazon, you are correct it’s not the right place for you.

I believe the reference was to "Amazon Basics" items being inferior not random letter Chinese items. Amazon Basics are now just as bad if not worse.

Yes, it’s a noticeable difference. In my area they are increasingly relying on USPS which does not seem to guarantee dates as well as UPS. Sometimes I have tracked packages and it will be on a truck in Bethesda where I live, say that it will arrive that day, and then end up back at a warehouse, go to Pennsylvania and then have to get routed back to MD. Definitely some errors in the logistics.

I’m the PP who was worried about quality and while I do think both rather Chinese company and Amazon Basics are poor quality, I don’t really care about that. What I meant with deriding the quality control was that there’s a ton of stuff on Amazon that has been made in unregulated factories and using a number of chemicals that are untested for safety in human clothes/food/make-up/toiltries/etc. Costco is best for actually auditing the stuff that’s marketed on their website and at least target brand stuff is regulated by US laws.

I have also noticed this and it's gotten so bad that sometimes when I really need something the next day I put in two orders, and then if they both arrive I return one. It's a huge pain.

I've been a prime member for 10+ years and the experience over the past year has me questioning for the first time whether we should be keeping this subscription. I've started doing more and more of my online shopping elsewhere. The quality of the products and the search results are abysmal. It used to be you could do a search and find a quality product quickly, now you have to search through four pages of Chinese crap. The reviews are no longer dependable as legit.

I agree with PP that also the ads on Prime Video will probably be the tipping point for us. At least Prime offered other things than fast shipping, but we're not going to be watching an ad-based streamer, not worth it. We're definitely not going to be paying more to remove the ads. So now what is the point of Prime?

I genuinely liked Amazon, I wasn't one of the Amazon bashers, but I now wonder what the heck happened up top that allowed the business to degrade so much.

I used to love Amazon. But now when you search for an item, you get several suggestions that are not what exactly what you want. Have to scroll down to find your specific product. And Prime is a shadow of its former self. I just order directly from other companies now. It’s just as fast.

Blame Republicans

Supply chains are messed up because of Trump and is tariff mess.

OMG, you liberals are hilarious! Say exactly HOW and Why Republicans are behind this (I'm a conservative but not a Trumper). Please, I'm waiting a response as to EXACTLY how Republicans are bhiend a private company's policies.

And read up on general media as to what is Amazon is doing before you respond. You might learn something.

Yeah I’m a liberal as they come and I have no idea what PP was getting at. Yes Amazon is getting worse because supply chains are messed up but that has way more to do with the global pandemic than trump and frankly I think the biggest problem is that Amazon’s original business model was unsustainable especially in the current labor market.

Yes supply chains are messed up but that's not causing the issues PP are talking about

oh no they don't! And I've tried others. WalMart and Lowe's in particular have been disasters.
