I guess I've led a sheltered life ( I'm in my 50s), but even being able to say something so disgusting is something I don't understand for the life of me. I just don't get it. What could be wrong with someone that they could say all that, and while they are LAUGHING, and in front of other people, and to another human being's face (disabled or not, but definitely worse that the poor kid was disabled)? It's just something that I can't wrap my head around at all.

Bullies love to be mean and will say anything to get a reaction.

I think we can all agree that this is beyond the typical bullying. This is so cruel. Also many have already noted how MAGA SP is but it is a school that’s easily over 80% white

Pretending it’s something unique to SP is the trolling part. That living in MoCo or Fairfax would prevent exposure too.

An incident of this magnitude is pretty rare. Racism may not be, but bullying a special needs kid to the point of calling him “c****le” and threatening him with violence isn’t common at Fairfax or MoCo high schools, don’t sit there and act like it is. This is the result of SP letting kids get away with everything and some of the parents in the community failing to instill morals in their kids.

Parents - listen to your children, how they speak to other kids. If they say something nasty, you nip that sh-- in the bud right there and give them a talking to. If I even hear my DD saying "shut up" in a rude way, I bust in there. Nasty kids are a reflection of bad parenting.

Really? Because recent grads of SPHS in every SP related Facebook (especially non-white alumni) have been saying otherwise and that they’re happy that the school is finally under fire for this problem.

Just remembered that Sean Urbanski, the white UMD student who killed a Black Bowie State student on UMD’s campus & was part of a very racist FB group is an SPHS grad & from SP. There was also an incident in 2016 where a student threatened to bring his dad’s gun to school and kill all the gay students.

How—with the above, the Arundel football player incident, the MAGA presence, the Mike Peroutka support, and this incident—can some of you still deny that this school and area has a very significant problem with racism? How can you claim to be liberal DCUM and then move to this area for “the schools”?

I saw the unblurred video, and the kid actually appeared to be white (unless he’s mixed and just white passing).

The response to this from the new superintendent will be very telling.
He’s a black man and I hope he uses the full weight of his life experience to provide some perspective to the kids at sphs (and their parents)

I don’t think you need to move or send your kids to privates. I would highly encourage you to get involved with the SP schools and push for more accountability and transparency. Find more like-minded parents. Severna Park Liberals is a nice Facebook group you could join to connect with other liberal-minded families in SP & create change with.

The culture is toxic, but it also has potential to change if more parents like yourself push the schools to do better.

Too late. Severna Park and Arundel HS parents already gerrymandered themselves out of the Old Mill redistricting. They’re being redistricted with the whiter and richer “southern” schools instead.
