They are undesirable groups, which is everywhere, but groups like this function differently than a gang. A gang usually has high pressure to join and some gangs will kill you if you don’t join. I don’t keep up much on MAGA groups but I haven’t heard of any MAGAS killing someone for refusing to wear their hats.

Western Maryland is more about the drug gangs than white supremacists. The grow houses and dispensaries have made it a haven for the fentanyl crowd and their suppliers. I visited Cumberland over Thanksgiving and had to go to a Truist bank for my father. While their I got $100 because I needed cash for people raking his leaves. A male bank officer walked me to my car because I had cash. He explained druggies grab handbags to buy fentanyl from gangs to disburse around the area.

MS-13 is prevalent in the DMV but unless you’re affiliated it’s pretty much business as usual

OP says they weren’t aware for a while so it’s probably not a big deal. When you’re hearing gunshots and see a police presence on a regular basis, then be concerned.

I saw some fear-mongering about this a few years back, but when pressed nobody could find a single gang-related incident in MCPS at least in the past decade. The OP kept posting articles about MS-13 but was about incidents in places like Texas.

There was the CC shooting last week. Knife fights at W's last Fall. I think it's changing for the worse. There are just so many other desirable areas these days that it isn't the same as 20 years ago.

Can vouch for Cumberland being depressing and ridden with drug addicts. Don’t see what any of this has to do with OP’s concerns about gang activity in the DMV. Some MAGA voter from the Eastern shore is not going to slice someone up with a machete and bury them in a shallow grave in the woods for ratting out a fellow gang member in Annandale or Wheaton. OP didn't ask about "DMV," but about Maryland. Cumberland is in Maryland.
