Private & Independent Schools
| Yeah, but if OP is being genuine and asking on behalf of her SON, why did she slip NCS and Holton in there?? |
Jeffrey Wright rules! |
Famous alums: Dave Chappelle and Denyce Graves |
| I complained about the multitude of posts, and I'm reading them b/c I'm an alum of one of the schools being mentioned. I don't hate/resent private schools, as you say, just think that the quantity is ridiculous. Seriously, 9 of the 12 most recent posts in the Private School forum are some version of NCS vs. Holton. Clearly coming from the same person. I just hope for their kids' sake they are actually doing some substantive research as well instead of going solely on the gossip of people they've never met. |
| Some people really only want the US to be a free country for themselves and not others. If you don't like the topics people -- make your own or go elsewhere. I just learned about DCUM on Saturday and I can already see some people are truly evil on these things. Move away from the computer if you don't like the subjects |
| Maria Shriver went to Stone Ridge |
| Chelsea Clinton went to Sidwell |
| Davis Guggenheim went to Sidwell |
| uh pp...I dont know who that is? |
| The Obamas go to Sidwell! |
I agree with this poster. This board is clogged with NCS/Holton posts. This question in particular is (sorry) mind-numbingly stupid. There are "famous" grads from all the schools in the DC area; there are also "famous" parents of kids currently attending all these schools. There are also a lot of unfamous, interesting, goodhearted parents and kids at all these schools. My advice, OP: stop posting on this board and go visit the schools and meet some of the students and parents. |
Movie producer since that is what the Op was interested in. He produced Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth. Won an Oscar. His father won many oscars for his documentaries. |
|
A few other Sidwell grads:
Margaret Edson who won a Pulitzer Prize for Wit The author of the Traveling Pants series Ana Gasteyer who used to be on SNL |
|
Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt H.S. in Greenbelt. Not many Big N grads have done as well as that product of Prince George's County Public Schools. (But he went undergrad to UMCP, not an Ivy, so maybe he was a failure by this forum's standards.)
See the very interesting recent article by Jay Mathews, "Elite Schools Don't Make Elite People." (Jay himself started at Occidental College before transferring to Harvard.) |

I like Jay Matthews and all -- but he tries to act like he and his kids went public -- they went to Sidwell and he went to Harvard.
It looks like famous people have gone to all sorts of schools...it looks like Sidwell takes the cake in this area...thanks to the person who answered about Guggenheim...his name wasn't familiar...but I loved the movie. |
