As a parent, I can't imagine why you'd hire a homeless schizophrenic. I just can't.
I had no idea he killed Michelle Dorr too.

How would you know back in 1992? We had difficult times just doing minimal background checks on nanny applicants back then. It was much more difficult to hire and check out help back then without the internet.

Did you really come back 3 years later to post a freaking link correction?

This might be my favorite dcum interaction ever

Laura's mother was as crazy as Haden Clark. She brought an insane paranoid killer into her sphere, and her daughter died because of her.

If she had any honor whatsoever, she would've killed herself over this. Instead, she explains it away.

What a pitiful excuse for a mother.

Laura was a college classmate of my dh at Harvard. Very sad that she died so young.

I think it's true that the mother was crazy. She was a psychotherapist and apparently really believed that she could control Clark by setting boundaries.

Hiring them is fine. Inviting them into your home, giving them keys and access to your daughter ? That’s a no-no.

Sounds like mom was on a power trip.

Does anyone know what street they were living on at the time? Sounds like my neighborhood.

The mother was misguided. I knew people who used to see Hadden in Bethesda and they said he was off.
I am in medicine and I see all sorts of odd people. My advice to all is to NEVER let your guard down, especially if you are lonely or depressed. These folks will seek you and take what ever they want.
BTW, Hadden's own mother was afraid of him. She was the one with sense.
Lauras mother acted like those nuts that go into the woods to befriend a grizzly bear. That is fantasy.

I always felt Elizabeth Smart family did the same thing. Inviting mentally unstable vagrants into your home is not a great idea.

And what does this Bethesda mother do? Get's MAD AT THE POLICE for suspecting Hadden Clark. And homeless advocates were calling the police department yelling at the police for accusing a homeless man.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!?!?!

Furthermore, Her brother says "We trusted Hadden, and that trust was...misplaced". YOU THINK?!?

Her daughter had told her mother before her disappearance that there was something not right about Clark. And Clark did not like her as a result, because she wanted her mother to let him go from her employ. The family dismissed her.

Very frustrating to me. This girl did not have to die so horribly. Her family wanted so much to be 'good people' and hired a mentally-ill homeless man, and it cost them their daughter, because she was not so blindly benevolent.

Agree with you OP. I learn about this case from Forensic Files and it's so sad that Laura worked so hard to get into Harvard and never got to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

I don't think he had keys but the door wasn't locked and that was how he was able to enter.

Houghteling, Savopolous, Goff family, and the lululemon victim were all murdered by people that worked for them. These were not stranger murders or people they ran with in their circles. The employer/employee murder makes me nervous about anyone I would hire.
