Vanicream cleanser, Elta MD sunscreen, and Retin-A. I’ve also tried vitamin C without luck. Thank you for the recs. |
PP here. How often are you washing your face? What are you using the RetinA for (acne)? How long have you been using RetinA? What strength is the Retin A? How often are you applying the RetinA? Have you tried applying moisturizer before RetinA? (Yes, I know meds usually go under but RetinA can be very drying and irritating). |

Retin-a can be super irritating. Can you cut back your use of that a bit or go down in strength? It’s tough in the winter. My thoughts- Vanicream moisturizer is fantastic. Their cleanser however is drying. But Vanicream moisturizer is the only way I’ve been able to tolerate retin-a. For cleaner I use cerave but it has to be the sensitive version that doesn’t foam. I’m conflicted about hydroboost gel moisturizer that was recommended a few times. It does live a nice “finish” on the skin but it leaves me still dry. I think pp is onto something and you should change your cleanser. I also have had to stop cleansing twice a day like I used to be able to. I wash my face once at night and not in the morning. I either do nothing or a quick swipe with a wet washcloth. |
| Second ponds. Use the cold cream too. Only thing that doesn’t make my rosacea flare. |

I have incredibly sensitive skin - even sensitive skin brands irritate.
For the last couple of years, I've been using Obagi Hydrate moisturizer. It's not cheap but my skin loves it (and so do I). I didn't get this rec from my derm but she told me it's one of the moisturizers she recommends for people with very sensitive skin. https://www.dermstore.com/obagi-medical-hydrate-facial-moisturizer/11291537.html?utm_egbu=(US:ePMax)+mid+score&utm_egb=&utm_ega=&utm_egc=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA0bWvBhBjEiwAtEsoWwpLl2-LYLlFNWYA1B2JVqMY6fD_2ebhOKj9oTAaiwHOVX8qIprfCRoCSo4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds If you buy directly from Obagi, they're having a 20% off sale now: https://www.obagi.com/products/hydrate-facial-moisturizer |
| I have really sensitive skin and also can't stand any fragrance on my face. I've used Oil of Olay (the one that is fragrance free for sensitive skin) for years and love it. |
| The vanicream sensitive skin moisturizer is the best one I’ve ever found, but it sounds like you tried it already? If you didn’t try that specific one, definitely do. Daily moisturizer for sensitive skin. |

I’m also 40, sensitive skin that is acne prone too. I’m use tretinoin which makes it even more sensitive. I’ve tried the ones you mentioned too, and some high end brands geared for sensitive skin.
My favorite that I’ve been using about a year now, is Doctor Rogers. There is a lotion and a cream. I use lotion in day, cream at night. They are lovely. Avene cicilafate emulsion would be my second choice for daytime lotion. |
Same here, the oil-free one. It works great, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, and is cheap to boot! |
| Clinique moisture surge |
| I've had good luck with First Aid Beauty Ultra Hydrating cream. It absorbs well and is good for sensitive skin - oatmeal is one of the ingredients. |

I have sensitive skin and the Avene and La Roche Posay for sensitive skin are usually too thick for me.
I LOVE Alpyn Beauty PlantGenius moisturizer!!! I love the scent and the very light texture. It's not quite enough in winter, so I do use dabs of Avene (whichever one it is for skin with rosacea), but I can't do without the Alpyn Beauty. It soothes my soul...
I'll have to try other creams from this line, see if they're also good. |
| I've tried it all. COSRX Korean moisturizer is great for the cost, apply it to damp skin. Ponds cold cream is also an easily available and affordable alternative to expensive brands and as effective. |
+1 I was just going to post this. |
