12 year-old wants a tattoo

I don't know, OP. I don't actually think there is any real reason to say no, except... I *feel* like this falls under "You are too young" category.

She can wait. Kids don’t just get what they want when they want it just because they want it.

My just-turned 18yo has been talking about and researching tattoos for years. Likely to get one in the next 6 months, but still really putting a lot of thought into it. There is no reason to get one at 12, and I bet it would be nearly impossible to find someone who would do it.

Get her a henna tattoo instead.

Mine wants a Taylor Swift tattoo - which is why 12 year olds are not allowed to get tattoo's!

No way. This is what temporary tattoos are for.

I am leaning that way. DH is against it.

Too young. Tell her that you won't consent, but that she can get one with you (as another PP upthread said) as her 18th birthday present, or graduation gift, or college acceptance present.

I have a tattoo and a 12 year old. That’s a hard no from me.

This would be one of those times when one parent would have veto powers in my house.

There was a troll post in recent history by a "dad" who was thinking of letting his 13 year old get a tattoo to commemorate his dead mom.
Troll score: 0, it's been done before.

Oh good grief! She's 12 - how is this even a question to ponder yourself never mind pitching it out to the public to crowdsource.

Society is DOOMED! DOOMED, I tell you!

My wife wanted a tattoo younger than that. She waited until she was 18 and got it on her birthday, seems totally reasonable.

This is either a teen posting on her or a really stupid parent.

18 is age of consent for a tattoo. No reputable tattoo place will tattoo a 12 year old even w parental consent.

People have their kids taken away for this

I wanted a tattoo when I was 12, talked about it all the time. My mom was even going to design my first one. Got my first at 29.

I also wanted to be a pop star lawyer at 12 so you know goals.

I found it, but don't know how to link. It was posted on tweens and teens on 4/7/23, "Would you let your young teenager get a tattoo?"
