| Private/not private may be somewhat in the past (a lot of these girls go to private for HS) but yes, Stars girls are known by the coaches. If an amazing Stars girl has a bad tryout day, they will still make it, because the Capital coaches know they are good. Any other kid has to make themselves shine at tryouts and go to clinics and/or private lessons to up their profile. |

How much of the reverse is true -- kids who excel on their middle school clubs become more likely to choose a private school where they can work to their full potential. Say what nice words you want about public vs. private but the top private programs (for girls: Saints, Visi, SR) are light years ahead of the average private program and the next tier or two of private programs are well ahead of all but the top publics. This is likely to continue to be true for quite some time in the close-in DMV.
If your or your child's goal is to get to and play at a top school, the path is playing at a top high school program alongside the club. Not just for the lacrosse but also for the education, college counseling, etc. I know very few parents who have the resources to make that happen that choose public school and several who are stretching to make it a reality for their daughters. |
There are quite a few Stars players who switch to private for 9th - the same time they are trying out for Capital. It’s easier to get recruited coming from private school too so that plays into it all. |
Katie just hired a full time recruiting director I am assuming to try to stem the tidal wave of girls jumping to Capital. Not certain if it will help. That being said she I assume she will have 3 26 teams next year so from a monetary point of view things are good. |
| I’d predict the 2026 Capital teams are already locked and loaded based off of the SSSAS middle school teams. The 2027s will be a different story especially since that Stars team has never had any scaffolding for success. |

Have been thru the process — the high school does not matter.
‘23 Blue players attended a wide range: SSAS, Riverside, Visi, Sidwell, Stonebridge, Freedom, St. John’s, Holton, BCC, West Springfield, Walter Johnson, Bishop Ireton, O’Connell, SR, STAB. The school has no bearing on a player’s selection to Capital. Stars is no longer the feeder to Capital it once was. The club was sold to TSJ which is starting its own HS team. An argument could be made that Pride is a stronger feeder to Capital based on the numbers selected for the ‘25 team. Going to advance Capital camps is probably the best thing to to do to be seen by / get to know Capital coaches and directors ahead of tryouts. |
| How does one even get private lessons if you are not in the pipeline? |
Call Capital and ask |
There is no secret pipeline. Ask a local coach, ask a good college player home for break or the summer. Ask for names from parents. Search for it here on DCUM. |
Lol that this starts out with “…the high school does not matter.” Then proceeds to list private after private. School clearly matters … oh and $$$$. |
Hey genius: what part of West Springfield, BCC, Walter Johnson, Riverside, Freedom and Stonebridge did you miss? And this wasn’t about public v private. Prior posts suggested attending SR or Saints is the only way to get to Capital / recruited from Capital. Facts prove otherwise. |
Just trying to understand this - how do the SSSAS middle school teams help to predict Capital teams? Most of the A team is 2026 and most of the B team is 2027. It seems like that would be expected. |
It won't stop anyone from going to Capital Blue (A Team) . Maybe it will help stem the tide of girls going to Capital Orange (B Team). |
27 Capital will be different than year's past mainly because BLC has 11-13 girls who would likely make it if they tryout. Very different dynamic than in year's past. |
Not. Gonna. Happen. You have been posting about this supposedly great BLC team for ages. Well the ‘26 Stars and ‘26 Pride teams are incredibly good and ranked nationally. Those girls are far more likely to make Capital than someone from BLC. Any girl that good should have switched programs last year. Capital is not going to take half their blue treat from BLC. |
