| I get my hair colored and cut. It’s about $200 total. I’ve been tipping $40 —20% of the total. But someone recently told me that she only tips on the amount of the cut, not coloring. Is this standard? I’m going to keep my current practice, but I’m wondering what’s normal for people who get a cut/color. |
| If its a cut, 20% but for cut and color/highlights 10%. I used to pay higher but then I realized how much it adds up and then I skip sessions to save money. Also, new stylist is the owner of her own salon so doesn't make sense to try to compensate her for low income. |
| *she earns more than me |
| she earns more than YOU?! I take it you don't work? I tip 20% unless it's the owner of the salon. Prices are higher for them, naturally. |
| 20% on the total cost of the services -- why wouldn't you tip on the color? |
NP, but an experienced stylist/colorist who also owns their salon (and hence gets a cut of everyone else's earnings) can easily make a lot. I pay like $300-$400 for a cut/color with tip at a nice salon and the owner charges more than my stylist. |

So my daughter is AA and gets her hair done more than me. I pay cash and don’t tip. The person does it in her home.
I get a hair cuttery cut ( no color) and tip 20% in cash directly to stylist. |
| I tip 20% of the total. |
| 20% of the total for someone who did a good job and I’ll want to see again. Less for the opposite. Even less if the experience was unpleasant. |
| I tip 20 percent on the whole total, including color. |
| 20-25% on total |
| 20% no matter the service. $5 for shampoo person for a regular wash; $10 if they were washing out color. |
Is this like not tipping on bottles on wine? |
| 30% of the total. |
What???? |
