What’s difference between Holy Child and Stone Ridge?

| Trying to look at both schools for middle school. What is the difference with these 2 all girls schools? Student profile and sports all seem similar. Is one more difficult to get in to? |

| Stoneridge is more difficult and considered more prestigious. When we visited Stoneridge however, decided not to apply but are applying to Holy Child. The schools have very very different vibes - both wealthy but HC is more relaxed, focuses on a more joyful whole child/student experience. Just depends on what you’re looking for! |

If your daughter plans to take the most rigorous courses, then Stone Ridge will be more difficult. The top 10 percent plus of the class is filled with smart girls whose parents are CEOs, BigLaw partners, and so forth. It is not NCS, but at the very top it is difficult. For a good but more middle of the road student, I assume Stone Ridge would still be more stressful than HC, but by how much I do not know. The overall teaching quality at Stone Ridge is very good.
College matriculations from Stone Ridge are better. I was shocked at how well the middle of the class did at Stone Ridge in this regard, but some of that was legacy, famous parents. Finally, sports can be a big difference between the schools. Some elite athletes attend Stone Ridge, mostly lacrosse and swimming but can be in other sports as well. Sports can also influence the social scene. As you can tell, my daughter went to Stone Ridge. My familiarity with HC is less; HC is a good school too. |

| They both good schools. It is all about fit and what your DD needs. Stone Ridge has excellent teachers and more impressive facilities and college placements. Beautiful new theater/arts/dining hall building and pool. HC is smaller and, IMO, more supportive and less stressful and competitive. Has more academic support. SR has some lifer kids who have been there from kindergarten (or before!). Can also look at AHC and Visi, of course. Shadow visits and talking to other parents should help. Good luck! |

| I think it would be crazy not to apply to both given their similarity and selectivity. Don’t worry about choosing until/unless you’re accepted to both and faced with that problem. |

| Connelly is richer, better for girls with learning differences, and more Catholic. Ridge is CINO and more academic. |

Both are wonderful. Holy Child is more prestigious, has more rigor, and is very well-known. Also, Holy Child has wealthier / more influential families. |

This HC booster is all over this forum making the claim that HC has more rigor. This is so untrue. SR is by far more rigorous, more well known, and more "prestigious." Please ignore the above. Those lists do not tell the whole story. Not everyone puts their acceptance in. My nieces did not nor did many of their friends. |

How big were each of the graduating classes? Your stats show that no HC grads got into a top 20 school but what percentage of SR DID NOT go to a top 20 school? I think proportionally, if you tell me that no HC girls got in to top 20 schools but still got into good schools and that only 7% of SR got into the top 20 schools, I'm not going to lose sleep thinking my DD has missed out by not going to and graduating from SR. If you look at the good schools (that are not top 20) but that are popular the last couple of years SR, HC and Visi's stats are equal. HC does very well with college placement. You have to keep in mind that the girls who go to HC are specifically, looking for a different high school experience that is not as stressful and unpleasant as the top schools (i.e., NCS and Holton) and the second tier schools (SR and Visi). There's nothing wrong with that but keep in mind that these same girls probably are not interested in killing themselves at an Ivy League school either and that's fine. Just because you see a list of where kids are going, it doesn't mean they didn't apply and get in other places. I have an 8th grader who is interested in HC, SR and Visi and friends of hers who graduated last year got into all three schools - some (who were smart/very academic) chose HC, some chose SR, fewer chose Visi and some opted to try their highly rated publics. |
