| I know you’re not supposed to exercise until 6 weeks PP, but what about long stroller walks? When can I go on a 2 mile stroller walk? During pregnancy I typically walked 2-5 miles a day and itching to resume. |
| DONT DO THAT. I did after my c section because I felt fine and had awful consequences with it not healing properly. My doctor this time - a marathon runner and huge proponent of exercise - told me to go max “around the block” til 6 weeks. |
|
Assuming you are otherwise healthy, take it slow and listen to your body. If your bleeding increases significantly, or you feel pain, or additional exhaustion, pull back.
My midwife was OK with me walking pretty much as soon as I could feel my legs again. |
| I’d start with a half mile and then increase by that amount each week. |
| 2 miles is too much. I felt fine after my 2nd c-section, overdid it, and ended up causing problems for myself. Don’t do it. |
This. You will feel fine in the moment. Later on, you will pay with exhaustion and possible complications. Please respect the seriousness of having just had major abdominal surgery. Let your body heal. |
| Nope, don’t do it…or at least don’t jump to it. Go around the block, then go around the block twice…etc. Work up to it. But really, pushing a stroller is more exertion than just walking on your own. Just don’t. And take it super easy. |
| What kind of complications? |
| Nope, don’t do it. Your uterus is all stretched out and shrinking in size. Ligaments are lax because of birth and nursing hormones. Even with a c section you can give yourself pelvic organ prolapse from overexertion in this vulnerable time when your core is likely not functioning properly, abs are likely still separated, and pelvic floor is quite vulnerable. |
DP but I had complications that landed me back in the hospital. Severe complications. My c section hadn’t healed despite feeling fantastic. Also didn’t “work out” - only went for walks, albeit a couple miles at a time. Not.Worth.It. |
How many weeks PP were you when you resumed exercise and injured yourself? Trying to figure out if I can resume walks at 4 weeks PP or truly need to wait 6 weeks. The 6 weeks sounds like a LONG time. |
|
Wait the 6 weeks and then slowly work your way up to it.
You might be fine. You might not be. No on can tell you in advance which you’ll be, and it’s not worth it if you’re not. |
Your body has been through a trauma. You have a massive placenta sized wound in your abdomen that is bleeding internally and healing. Your surgeon cut through 5 layers of fascia and tissue and skin to cut your uterus. Hormones are crashing, nursing is being established as is milk supply, abs are separated and coming together, your body is processing anesthesia and fluids from delivery, healing from the catheter and spinal, adjusting to sleep deprivation, etc. 6 weeks is NOTHING to recover from that. Take it easy or you risk injuring yourself. |
|
Start small. 3 minute walk or whatever you want to start with. Add 1 minute per day. Or 2 minutes every other day. Take a day off if you’re feeling too much pulling.
You’ll work up to 30m in no time. After a few months you’ll feel fairly normal again. I’m 5y later and it has been years and years since I felt any pull at my scar. *Once a year or so I do a new extreme sport, and I don’t feel like I’ve ever had 2 CSs. |
Same. I was a big walker before delivery and eager to get back to it, overdid it without realizing. Sit tight, OP. |
