PP here. Yes I think ED2. My kid just wasn’t ready to do that. Again the field of study matters a lot. |
At our private this year, WashU: ED1 (3.75uw/TO), ED2 (3.82uw 34) Emory : ED1 (3.7+uw/TO), ED2 (3.8 33) There are a few others but this is what I know. The Tufts ED were lower scores/TO and gpa. |
Btw these were the successful candidates. |
Where did they choose? |
Wow those are lower than I’d thought. |
Private though. Where there’s grade deflation…. |
Even ED? And how can you you tell rigor from Naviance? |
Yes, mostly ED. However, the past 3 years were wacky admissions - this year has been much more predictable. You are right Naviance doesn’t show rigor, but my kids know the couple of kids each year attending and that has been the case for them with rigor. |
It seems surprising that these schools would only take 1500+ kids from a W school but TO kids from private, especially if (what one if the earlier posters said) in ED they are taking top 1/3 or top 1/2 (Emory and Tufts, respectively)…unless these kids are also legacy/athletes? |
Which field of study has the best chances in ED2? Humanities? Which? |
My daughter's a sophomore at WashU. She got in RD from a MoCo W school. Her stats were very good, although not quite elite. She applied to the school of design and had a cool (IMHO) portfolio.
She's double majoring in design and biology and going to apply to med school. She hadn't planned on med school, but WashU seems to suck kids into it. |
Are those kids from a W school applying in RD? If so, that explains it. Applying early absolutely makes a difference regardless of high school. Truthfully, it’s all kind of strange, but you can see that some high schools have a tighter connection with some colleges over others (eg, they funnel more kids there who do end up enrolling (and and not holding out for a better offer). This reality is especially true in the private high school scene where many (most?) are full pay. Certain colleges - esp the ones discussed here - will admit up to 5% of the high school’s class (over 3 rounds) from these private schools. Now that may only be 6 kids (given size of school) but the history with the school does matter and dictates this discrepancy. Sometimes you see these stat discrepancies at other T11-25 schools as well - Rice has openly said that they do not view a test optional candidate from a private school in a negative light (and assume a high test score given lack of grade inflation at that HS)… so not all colleges see TO as less than a 1500. Good luck to her - but did this answer OP's question? |
I call BS. Nobody would get "sucked into" pre med. |
The percentage doesn’t tell you anything if you don’t know how many are athletes. |
