Emory/Tufts/WashU

Are they all equally hard for a standard smart DMV public school kid to get into ED? Does one give a bigger bump to an ED application than the others?

DD likes all three…the acceptance rates are shockingly low and I assume for an unhooked kid from this area all three are very reachy.

They all have acceptance rates above 30 percent for ED1.

Test scores?

If TO, washU

Tufts is probably the easiest with only 45% of students submitting test scores and lowest ranked.

You can google this to check my numbers but all the EDI rates are over 30 percent and vary a bit year to year but I think tufts was highest this past year w about 40 percent and Emory maybe lowest at 30. They are all wonderful schools and if you can pick a favorite and are comfortable it is definitely where they are filling a lot of the class and much higher rates of admission.

OP here. Thanks...I thought I saw EDs at each school much closer to 20-25 percent (nowhere close to 40 percent), no? And I assumed for an unhooked DMV kid like mine it would be more of a long shot....

We are full pay but I assume that won't make much of a difference since most ED families are.

Pick WashU

OP again...right now (the one SAT taken in March was 1440...hoping for 1500, which is where the practice scores have been around, in May). But probably won't take it again after that because has already done prep for a couple of months and so probably won't go up after May. So another question is whether submitting 1440-1500 scores at these schools in ED round makes sense or not...

Say more? Because that's the best shot DD has? Because you think it's the best school out of the three? Or because your own kid wants to apply to other two ?

I’ll bet that they’re comparable and that, for any given kid, the experience is comparable.

The big question would be what schools are similar but less selective. I think Case Western, Rochester and maybe (I don’t know much about; welcome a reality check) Clark.

Emory & washu will be harder than Tufts in terms of admission (Emory and washu are more selective)

Ed1 numbers at all three are above 30 percent. You may be looking at combined ED1 and ED2 numbers.

Not for ED1.

What’s the evidence for this from recent ED rates?

Tufts is a lot more popular at our school, if only because of location. Most kids don’t want to move to St Louis. And the Atlanta area is also less desirable than the Boston area.

60% of admitted students submitted test scores this year. 10% acceptance rate.
